Men’s Basketball Announces 2022-23 Schedule

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University men's basketball will host 12 regular season home games and play at defending national champion Kansas as a part of its schedule for the 2022-23 season, which begins on Nov. 7, Tommy Amaker, The Thomas G. Stemberg '71 Family Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Basketball, announced on Friday.

Highlights from the Crimson's 2022-23 schedule include the season opener at Morehouse on Nov. 7, the home opener vs. Siena on Nov. 20, a home matchup against 2018 Final Four participant Loyola Chicago, and a road tilt at Kansas on Dec. 22 in non-conference play. The Crimson will close the regular season with 14 straight Ivy League games, including a span of six home games in seven contests from Jan. 14 to Feb. 11.

Harvard tips off the season at Morehouse – the first of two HBCUs on the Crimson's 2022-23 schedule and the alma mater of Martin Luther King, Jr. – on Monday, Nov. 7. The Crimson topped the Maroon Tigers, 86-70, last season in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The Crimson then plays at the nationally televised Asheville Championship on Nov. 11 and Nov. 13. Harvard will face Louisiana in the semifinals on Nov. 11 and will meet either East Tennessee State or Elon in the championship or consolation game on Nov. 13 on ESPNU.

Following a road game at local rival Northeastern on Nov. 16, Harvard hosts its first two home games of the year – against Siena on Nov. 20 and against Loyola Chicago on Nov. 25. The Crimson took down the Huskies, 77-57, last season, while dropping a narrow 72-69 decision to the Saints in 2021-22. The Crimson will meet the Ramblers – who won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in three of their final five years in the MVC – for the first time.

Returning to the road, the Crimson plays at Fordham in historic Rose Hill Gym on Nov. 27 and at Holy Cross on Nov. 30. Harvard last squared off with the Rams in the 2017-18 season, earning a 47-45 victory and beat the Crusaders last season, 62-54.

Opening the month of December, Harvard hosts Massachusetts on Dec. 2 and Tufts on Dec. 4 in its final game before the finals break. The Crimson fell to the Minutemen a year ago, 87-77, while Harvard last met Tufts during the 1968-69 season in a 90-73 victory.

Returning from the finals break, the Crimson hosts Howard – an HBCU it has played six times since 2013-14 – on Dec. 18 prior to making its longest road trip of the season, playing at UC Irvine on Dec. 20 and at Kansas on Dec. 22. The Crimson took a 77-69 victory over the Bison last winter, earned a 77-73 victory over the Anteaters during the 2019-20 season, and fell 75-69 in its lone meeting with the Jayhawks in 2015-16.

Harvard's non-conference finale comes at Maine on Dec. 28 with the Crimson taking the last meeting over the Black Bears in 2019-20, 67-46.

Ivy League play begins for the Crimson on New Year's Eve as Harvard plays at Princeton on Dec. 31. The Crimson remains on the road for its first back-to-back weekend of the year at Brown on Jan. 6 and at Yale on Jan. 7.

Harvard then opens a stretch of competition where it hosts six of its next seven contests at home. The slate begins with Columbia on Jan. 14 prior to Dartmouth on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Jan. 16. The Crimson then hosts Cornell on Jan. 21 prior to its only road game during the stretch, playing at Penn on Jan. 28. The run ends with a back-to-back against Brown on Feb. 3 and Yale on Feb. 4 before hosting Penn on Feb. 11.

Down the stretch in regular season play, Harvard completes its final back-to-back with road games at Columbia on Feb. 17 and at Cornell on Feb. 18. The Crimson's final home regular season game comes against Princeton on Feb. 25 prior to the regular season finale at Dartmouth on March 4.

The 2023 Ivy League Basketball Tournaments are set to take place from March 10-12 at Princeton's Jadwin Gymnasium.
