CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Basketball rising senior
Thomas Batties II has been named to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee. The 2026-27 co-captain's appointment begins Sept. 1, 2026, and runs through Aug. 31, 2027.
The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee ensures that appropriate oversight of men's basketball is maintained, enhances the development and public perception of the sport and makes recommendations related to regular-season and postseason men's basketball. The committee will prioritize enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promote student-athletes' personal growth and leadership development.
The Men's Basketball Oversight Committee also supervises qualifications and/or selection procedures for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship and reviews recommendations from the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee and processes other issues related to the administration of the championship.
A 2025-26 All-Ivy League Second-Team selection, Batties (807 points) enters his final year at Harvard on the verge of becoming the 38
th player in program history to score 1,000 points in a career and first since Noah Kirkwood in 2022. Batties also enters the season ranked 10
th all-time in career blocked shots with 97. The forward, who averaged a career-high 12.3 points and 5.4 rebounds as a junior, meanwhile, enters 2026-27 as one of four returning starters off a squad that finished in second place in the Ivy League and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals.
