CAMBRIDGE, Mass- The Crimson opened the season on a hot day at Mignone Field with a win against the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 48-19.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Harvard women's rugby started the season off with a strong victory over Quinnipiac with a dominating force from impressive first-year athletes.
- First-year Lennox London scored the game's first try with two additional tries in the first half.
- Next, first-year Cameron Fields poached the ball from the Bobcats to score her first try with a conversion from junior Brogan Mior.
- Mior was a huge highlight player making three conversions.
- Coming into the end of the first half, first-year Tiahna Padilla scored the last try for the Crimson before halftime.
- In the second half, Fields scored her second try in the game and the sixth overall of the contest.
- As the game came to an end with minutes left on the clock, the Crimson scored back-to-back tries, first from senior Cassidy Bargell with a conversion from first-year Chloe Headland. Headland struck back right away scoring her first-ever try, creating a total of eight tries and four conversions for the Crimson in game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bobcats started off the game winning the kick-off and holding possession for the first few minutes until London scored the first try for the Crimson, making the score 5-0 six minutes into the game. Harvard came out with very high pressure and strong defense.
- After London's three tries the score was 18-0. Fields' try made the score 24-0 with Padilla scoring the final Crimson try of the first half at 31-0. The Bobcats couldn't break the Crimson's defense until they scored their first try just before the end of the first half. At halftime, the score was 31-7 with the Crimson dominating.
- Entering the second half of the match, the Bobcats scored the first try bringing the score to 31-12 nine minutes in. Right after the Crimson attempted to make a run and find an opening, but the ball was intercepted by the Bobcats and headed to their try zone to score. That was not without a fight from Fields, who made an impressive tackle before the try was scored making the score 31-19.
- The Bobcats' defense picked up in the second half, but the Crimson responded and broke through with Fields' try score. In the game's final minutes, Bargell and Headland scored back-to-back tries with the Crimson taking the win 48-19.
