Men’s Soccer Opens Ivy League Play at Cornell on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University men's soccer opens Ivy League play at Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4:00 p.m. (ESPN+) in Ithaca, New York, at Berman Field, coming off a 2021 Ivy season in which the Crimson closed the campaign on a three-game winning streak in conference play.

What to Know

  • For the season, senior Martin Vician leads Harvard in goals (five) and points (11). He scored back-to-back braces in games against Northeastern and Quinnipiac. Vician ranks first in the Ivy League in goals and third in points. He stands 36th in the NCAA in goals per game (0.62).
  • Junior Willem Ebbinge ranks second on the Crimson with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Ebbinge stands fourth in the conference in assists and fifth in points. He has notched points in six of the Crimson's eight games this season.
  • Sophomore Alessandro Arlotti ranks fourth in the Ivy League with four assists on the season and has compiled eight points on two goals and four assists. He has posted points in four of his last five matches. Arlotti stands ninth in the NCAA in shots on goal per game (1.88).
  • A total of 14 different players have tallied points for Harvard on the season. The Crimson tallied 10 players with points in its 6-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 24.
  • As a team, Harvard has established advantages in shots (146-102), shots on goal (73-43), and corner kicks (54-34) on the year.
  • The Crimson ranks second in the NCAA in shots on goal per game (9.12), fourth in assists per game (3.25), eighth in shots per game (18.25), and 12th in points per game (7.75).
  • Harvard's goalkeepers have posted a 1.50 goals-against average and two shutouts thus far on the season. Senior goalie Oskar Nilsson has notched a 1.48 GAA and one shutout over seven games played.
  • The Crimson totaled six goals in a 6-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 24. Six different Crimson – senior Ale Gutierrez, junior Willem Ebbinge, sophomore Marko Isakovic, junior Nik White, senior Martin Vician, and first-year Matus Vician – netted a goal in the game. The six goals marked Harvard's most in a game since a 6-0 win over Penn on Nov. 14, 2015. A total of 10 Harvard players registered points in the contest.
  • First-year Matus Vician earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 26 after posting four points on a goal and two assists in the Crimson's 6-0 victory over Fairfield. The points marked the first of Vician's collegiate career.
  • Harvard earned a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac on Sept. 17 behind senior Martin Vician's second straight brace alongside a goal from senior Ale Gutierrez.
  • Harvard pulled out a dramatic victory against Bryant as senior Nico Garcia-Morillo scored the game-winning goal with 2.5 seconds remaining to lift the Crimson to a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs at Jordan Field on Sept. 6.
  • Harvard opened its 2022 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Central Connecticut State in its home opener on Sept. 3. Sophomore Alessandro Arlotti and junior Willem Ebbinge provided the goals while senior goalkeeper Oskar Nilsson recorded the shutout.
  • Harvard leads Cornell in the all-time series, 41-26-15.
  • Cornell brings a 6-1-0 overall record and 0-0-0 Ivy League mark into Saturday's contest. The Big Red has posted a 1-1-0 record at home this season.
