Sailing Set to Race in the Women’s ACC Qualifier and Three Additional Regattas

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This weekend, Harvard sailing will head to the women's Atlantic Coast Championship Qualifier along with three other regattas: the Lark Invitational, the Moody Trophy and the Danmark Trophy. 
 
The Atlantic Coast Championship Qualifier will be held at both Brown and Harvard with the Crimson sailors competing in Cambridge, MA.  The Lark Invite is hosted by Tufts and will also take place in the Boston area, while the Danmark Trophy is hosted by Coast Guard and the Moody Trophy is hosted by University of Rhode Island. 
 

Forecast

Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Qualifier – Cambridge, Mass.
 
On Saturday temperatures are expected to range from 48 and 60 degrees with wind only ranging from one to four knots throughout the day.  With the remanence of a tropical storm Saturday holds a chance for rain later on in the day.  The greater impacts of the storm will be seen on Sunday wind is expected to range from 14 to 17 knots with gusts up to 33 knots. 
 
Lark Invitational – Medford, Mass.
 
Conditions for the Lark Invitational in Medford, Mass. is expected to be nearly the same as that in Cambridge, Mass.
 
Danmark Trophy – New London, CT
 
Conditions for the Danmark Trophy in New London, CT is expected to be nearly the same as that in Cambridge, Mass.
 
Moody Trophy – South Kingstown, RI
 
South Kingstown will see slightly different conditions to that in Connecticut and Massachusetts both days this weekend.  Rain is expected most of the day Saturday, along with wind raining from five to nine knots.  There is possibility for some ran on Sunday as well but the wind will pick up tremendously with a consistent 15 knot breeze and gusts up to 30 knots.
 

At the helm

Michael O'Connor is entering his 26th season as the head coach for the Harvard sailing program.  Under O'Connor, the Crimson have won national team race championships in both 2002 and 2003.  Additionally, they won the national coed championship and women's national title in 2003 and 2005, respectively.  Last year, O'Connor led his team back to the ICSA Team Race National Championship and the ICSA Coed Dinghy Championship.
