CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Five former Harvard football standouts finished the 2022 NFL regular season recently, with three moving on to the playoffs, which begin this weekend.
Â
Kyle Juszczyk '13 put together his seventh straight Pro Bowl season, helping the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC West Division crown and a No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The 10-year veteran fullback played in 16 games and finished with 226 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.
Â
Juszczyk's squad will face Tyler Ott '14 and the Seattle Seahawks (2
nd in NFC West) on Saturday during Wild Card Weekend. Ott, a long snapper who finished his eighth season overall and sixth with the Seahawks, was plagued by a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the entire campaign.
Â
The third member of Harvard's playoff trio, Cameron Brate '14, helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the NFC South Division title while playing tight end. The Super Bowl LV champion appeared in 11 games, catching 20 balls for 174 yards. The nine-year veteran will be making his third straight postseason appearance when the Buccaneers face the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.
Â
Outside of the playoff picture are Anthony Firkser '17 and Aaron Shampklin '20. Firkser finished his first season with Atlanta in 2022 and nearly helped the Falcons clinch a playoff berth. Atlanta, along with Carolina and New Orleans, found itself one game behind Tampa Bay for the division crown. The tight end saw action in 11 games and had nine receptions for 100 yards. Shampklin, meanwhile, finished his first NFL season on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.
