CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's swimming and diving team captured the annual HYP meet for the fifth consecutive time, taking down Yale, 239-113, and edging Princeton, 181-172. With both decisions, the Crimson secured the Ivy League dual-meet title as it finished the campaign 7-0 against Ancient Eight foes (7-0 overall).
Harvard entered the final day of the meet tied with the Tigers, 93-93, and leading the Bulldogs, 119-66. The outcome of the Harvard-Princeton head-to-head came down to the final event of the day – the 400 free relay.
Yale and Princeton were out in front of Harvard with
Marcus Holmquist left as the Crimson's final hope. The junior did not disappoint, making up the distance and propelling Harvard to victory.
Harvard Highlights
- The Crimson won the first three events of the day, emerging victorious in the 200 medley relay, 100 free and 200 back.
- The 200 medley quartet of Anthony Rincon, Saavan Shah, Umitcan Gures and David Greely finished with a time of 1:25.81, which represented the fastest time of any Harvard foursome this season.
- In the 100 free, Holmquist completed the race in 43.78, just ahead of Yale's Joe Page (43.89).
- Will Grant was the victor in the 200 back, touching the pad in 1:42.22, setting a season-best and improving upon his NCAA B-cut time.
- Gures also established a season-best and NCAA B-standard in the 100 fly, winning the event in 45.68.
- Right before the 400 free relay, Adam Wesson took first place in the one-meter diving event. The sophomore racked up 337.20 points. Luke Foster, meanwhile, came in third place (319.80).
- The aforementioned 400 free relay (Ryan Linnihan, David Greeley, Aayush Deshpande, Holmquist) completed the race in 2:54.33, two-tenths of a second off Harvard's top 2022-23 time.
