NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Harvard Women's Volleyball team (11-4, 4-2 Ivy) fell to the Ivy League no. 1 Yale Bulldogs in three extremely close sets on the road. Yale won the match in sets of 25-22, 25-22 and 29-27.
In the first set, Harvard started with the first point of the match but allowed the Bulldogs to pull ahead shortly after. Yale opened a lead, but Harvard cut it back down to two once the Bulldogs reached 20 by scoring five of six consecutive points. In a close finish, Yale won the first set 25-22.
Set two started with back-and-forth action, as the Crimson and Yale were tied at nine different scores through the first 12 points. The set was tight with long rallies and both teams making it to 21 before Yale pulled away in the final points and took a 2-0 lead after winning set two 25-22 once again.
The third set was just as close as the first two, with nine lead changes and game play all the way to 29 points. Yale held a lead going into point 24, at which point Harvard tied it up and forced the set past 25. In some of the most challenging and longest rallies of the night, both teams scored points after 25 until Yale won the final set 29-27 to win the match 3-0.
Harvard Highlights
- Ava Rauser and Ashley Wang led the team in kills, each making 12. With two block assists in addition to her kills, Rauser led in points with 13. She also had the best hitting percentage from either side, hitting .611.
- Ryleigh Patterson was influential in the match as well, making seven kills and three service aces. Two of these aces came at crucial moments to keep extending play in the third set.
- Rocky Aguirre put up 20 assists to lead the Crimson in the metric, followed by Ashley Wang with 16.
- Lindsey Zhang made multiple outstanding digs throughout the match, building up to 16 total to lead the team after three sets.
- Ariana White was on top at the net, scoring 2.5 total blocks with one solo and three assists.
- In three sets, Harvard only scored eight points less than the Ivy League leaders. The Crimson were only three kills shy of Yale's 49 kills, were even with the Bulldogs in 42 assists each and out blocked Yale 5-3.
