Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's soccer battled to a hard-fought draw tonight when it faced off with the Princeton Tigers at Jordan Field. The Crimson and the Tigers went back and forth for the full 90 minutes, trading blows in what would end in a 1-1 draw. The teams both earned a point in the Ivy League play and remain tied for second place in the conference table.
Jade Rose netted the lone goal for the Crimson, her first of the season, to tie the game in the first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams tied for second place in the Ivy League standings battled it out on Jordan Field this afternoon when Princeton made the trip up to Boston to take on Harvard.
- The Crimson started fast, feeding a ball down to Smith Hunter just after the first touch. Hunter managed to get Harvard a corner kick when her cross was blocked. Hannah Bebar took the corner, throwing a pass into the 18 finding Josefine Hasbo, whose shot on net was saved by Princeton.
- Anna Karpenko made a great save in the seventh minute of play, stopping a Princeton shot to keep the game scoreless.
- Ava Lung and Ólöf Kristinsdóttir both got quality shots off in the next ten minutes but were unable to find the net.
- Hasbo and Lung kept the pressure on the Princeton backline, putting shots on net, both of which were saved by the Princeton keeper.
- Princeton struck first on the counter, getting on the scoreboard at 27:55 in the first half.
- The Crimson answered ten minutes later, tying the game late in the first half. It was Jade Rose who scored the equalizer, capitalizing on a miscue on the Princeton backline.
- The Crimson would have two more good chances before the end of the half but could not find the go-ahead goal.
- It was a quiet first 15 minutes after the half, as the Crimson and Princeton battled. Princeton had three shot attempts but none of them found the goal as Harvard's defense continued to thrive. Susie had the only shot on goal in the same stretch for the Crimson.
- Harvard had a number of solid chances in the final stretch but was kept off the board by the Princeton defense. Long had two good looks and Bebar had another in the half.
- Anna Karpenko came up clutch with another save – her second of the game – with just six minutes remaining in the game.
- After the final whistle blew, Harvard and Princeton were still knotted at one apiece. Both teams would get a point and remain tied for second place in the Ivy League standings.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Jade Rose scored the lone goal for the Crimson. It was her first of the season and third of her career.
- Josefine Hasbo and Susie Long led the team with two shots on goal each.
- Harvard outshot the Tigers 13-9 and 7-3 in shots on goal.
- The Crimson had seven corner kick attempts compared to Princeton's three.
- Anna Karpenko made two saves in goal to backstop the effort.
