CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Lucian Wood earned his second shutout of the season as Harvard University men's soccer remained unbeaten in Ivy League play with a 0-0 draw against Brown University on Saturday afternoon at Jordan Field.
Opening a three-game homestand, the Crimson (2-3-5, 1-0-2 Ivy) and Bears (3-4-3, 1-0-2 Ivy) both stayed undefeated in conference play and remained tied in the league table with five points apiece.
Thus far in Ivy League play, Harvard has allowed just two goals over three matches with its draw against Cornell (1-1), victory over Columbia (3-1) and tie with Brown.
Harvard Highlights
- Sophomore goalkeeper Lucian Wood made five saves in his second shutout of the season. Wood tallied five or more saves for the third time this season.
- Along the back line, senior Nik White, junior Jan Riecke, and sophomore Ethan Veghte all played the full 90 minutes. Riecke has played all 900 minutes on the season.
- White tallied game highs in shots (four) and shots on goal (two).
- In the second half, Harvard led in shots on goal (2-1) and corner kicks (7-3) while each team posted seven shots in the stanza.
How It Happened
- Wood made four saves in the first half, including a diving save in the 19th minute and a stop on a close-range attempt in the 32nd minute.
- The Crimson defense cleared a shot off the line in the 22nd minute to keep the contest scoreless.
- Harvard increased its pressure on Brown in the second half, holding advantages in shots on goal (2-1) and corner kicks (7-3).
- In the 51st minute, White cracked a shot on target on a volley that tested the Bears' keeper.
- White threatened again in the 75th minute as a he drove a header on frame that required a reaction save.
- Junior Alessandro Arlotti nearly broke the deadlock in the 89th minute as his shot from inside the box went just wide to the left.
