CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 21 Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving opened its 2023-24 season on Saturday by defeating Cornell, 175-125, and Dartmouth, 202-97, at Blodgett Pool. With the two victories, the Crimson moved to 2-0 (2-0 Ivy League) on the season.
What to Know
- Senior team co-captain Cole Kuster opened individual action with a win in the 1,000 free. Kuster posted a time of 9:08.43, which was more than six seconds better than runner-up Julian Correa of Cornell (9:14.70).
- David Greeley edged Dartmouth's Isaac Weigel for first place in the 200 free. The sophomore finished in 1:38.11, just ahead of Big Green athlete Weigel (1:38.57).
- Will Grant, who co-captains the squad with Kuster, was the lone swimmer who posted a sub-49-second effort in the 100 back. Grant finished the race in 48.12.
- First-year David Schmitt won the 200 fly in 1:46.17, which spurred a string of wins for Harvard. After Schmitt, Marcus Holmquist won the 50 free (20.32), Adam Wesson claimed the three-meter diving crown (388.30), and Holmquist emerged victorious once again, posting a 50 free time of 44.43. Grant polished off the Crimson's winning streak with a 1:46.02 in the 200 back.
- Kuster was back at it again as afternoon turned into night. The senior won the 500 free in 4:26.87.
- In the one-meter competition, Wesson made it 2-for-2 after claiming the three-meter title earlier. The junior finished with a score of 362.40, and led a group that placed four in the top four (Wesson, Raphael Tourette (299.05), Denny Gulia-Janovsky (298.35), Luke Foster (274.65)).
- The Crimson finished its afternoon with an individual win from Will Grant (1:48.56) in the 200 individual medley and a 400 free relay victory from David Greeley, Ben Littlejohn, Harris Durham, Marcus Holmquist (2:58.05).
