CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball will return to the Boston area for their next matchup against Boston College on Thursday, November 9. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. and on the ACC Network.
What to Know
- Harvard opened up their 2023-24 season and the second year under head coach Carrie Moore on Monday, November 6 against No. 14 University of Maryland. Battling against the top-15 squad, the Crimson ultimately fell, 75-98.
- In their season opener Harvard had four players reach double digit points with Harmoni Turner leading the way with 18, followed closely by Lola Mullaney with 17 and then rounded out by Abigail Wright and Elena Rodriguez with 12 and 10, respectively.
- Turner also joined Wright and Katie Krupa in leading the team in rebounds with seven each. Lastly Turner dished out a team high six assists and collected three steals in the contest.
- Rodriguez, who led the Ivy League in field goal percentage last season, scored her 10 points on 71.4% shooting. The junior also led the team in steals with four.
- Each of the three Crimson first years scored on opening night with Karlee White scoring the first bucket of the game, Wright contributing 12 in the contest, and Maryland native, Mary Hollensteiner, hitting back-to-back threes on her first two collegiate shots.
- The Crimson season will consist of 13 nonconference matchups before it begins conference play on Saturday, January 6 against Yale.
- Harvard will host its home opener on Sunday, November 12, against Quinnipiac University at 2:00 p.m. The team's sole other nonconference home matchup will be Saturday, December 2 as the Michigan Wolverines make the trip to Cambridge.
- As Harvard returns for their second year under Carrie Moore the squad looks to build on its success and history from last season. The Crimson finished the year 20-12 overall and 9-5 in league play.
- The Crimson reached new heights last year by posting a 20-win season for the first time since 2016-17, making its first Ivy Madness championship game appearance, and advancing to the fourth round of a postseason for the first time in program history with its trip to the WNIT Great 8.
- Posting its, at the time, highest NET Ranking in program history, the Crimson checked in at No. 89 following its win over Princeton in the first Ivy game of the season. Harvard continued to climb in the rankings throughout the season and ultimately ended the year at No. 71.
- Besting a previous high of 18, Moore became the winningest first-year head coach in Harvard history.
- The Crimson returns its three All-Ivy accolade recipients in Harmoni Turner (First-Team All-Ivy), Lola Mullaney (Second-Team All-Ivy), and Elena Rodriguez (Honorable Mention All-Ivy). The Harvard trio also all ranked inside the top-13 in scoring within the Ivy League.
- While shooting a career-high 36.6% from three Mullaney averaged 14.3 points last season. The Crimson sharpshooter enters her final season as the 16th all-time leading scorer and the third in three-point field goals made.
- Turner continued her dominance on the court last season by averaging 16.3 points, 6-2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Her season total of 505 points ranked seventh all-time.
- As a sophomore, Rodriguez had a breakout season, averaging 11.3 points compared to her 2.0 average in her first year. Shooting 62.3% from the field, Rodriguez led the league in field goal percentage with the next closest player shooting 52.2%
- The Crimson returns eight players from last year's roster and welcomes three first-years and a junior transfer.
- After a strong high school career, first-year Karlee White was recently tabbed No. 11 on The Athletic Women's College Basketball Top 20 Freshmen list.
- The Thursday night matchup between crosstown foes will be the twentieth in series history. The Crimson will look to even the series with a win as they currently trail 9-10 all-time.
- The last time the two teams met was nearly a year ago to the day. The Crimson were victorious in the matchup, defeating the Eagles, 68-59.
