CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard Crimson (11-8-1, 3-1 Ivy) split a doubleheader with the Cornell Big Red (7-8, 1-1 Ivy) to open the 2023 home campaign, falling 5-4 then winning 6-0 in a shutout victory in game two. The Crimson-Cornell all-time series now stands at 52-29.

How it Happened
Harvard put four runs on the board in the first inning to take the lead, but was unable to score throughout the rest of the game. The Big Red narrowed their lead in the second inning with three runs then scored one each in the fourth and fifth to edge past Harvard's dominant first inning and defeat the Crimson 5-4.

Megan Welsh brought home two runs off one hit, earning two RBI.

Madi Mays joined her with one RBI each. Mays and first-year
Finley Payne each had two hits as Mays hit 2-for-3 and Payne hit 2-for-4.
• Harvard's four runs in the first inning were the most scored in one inning throughout the game.

Anna Reed's three strikeouts, the Crimson kept ten Cornell runners off base.

How it Happened
The Crimson took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Hoang came across to score the lone run of the inning for Harvard and get them on the board. The Crimson then tacked on runs in the sixth inning when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run triple off the bat of Teagan Shaw.
Game 2 Highlights
• Arrambide (2-1) went the distance for Harvard, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out five.
• Shaw led the way offensively for the Crimson, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a triple and two RBI. Allison Heffley compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hoang also contributed, going 1-for-4 for Harvard with a double.
• The highest scoring inning of the day was the sixth in game two, when Harvard pushed five runs accross.
• Harvard grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
• The Crimson out-hit the Big Red at a 7-1 clip.
• Harvard went 4-for-8 (.500) with runners in scoring position.
