Tarek of Men’s Squash Wins 2023 Skillman Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Throughout his tenure at Harvard, Marwan Tarek has etched his name in the men's squash records.  To officially close out his collegiate career Tarek, claimed one final honor by being named the 2023 Skillman Award recipient.

About the Skillman Award

The Skillman Award is the top honor for a men's college squash player.  Each year the honor is awarded to a senior student-athlete who has displayed the upmost sportsmanship and skill throughout their careers.  The three finalists will be judged by CSA coaches on six areas, on-court poise and demeanor, skill level and ability in squash, team play, contributions to college squash, leadership, and cooperation with players, coaches, and tournament officials.

Tarek's Historic Harvard Career

Arguably one of the greatest men's squash players in Harvard history, the Skillman Award completes an already decorated collegiate resume for Tarek.  Playing at the No. 1 and 2 spots for the entirety of his career, Tarek dominated college squash for his four years, amassing an individual record of 56-4.  During his time with the Crimson, the Cairo, Egypt native earned First-Team All-America and First-Team All-Ivy and each of his four seasons.  Capping off individual accolades, Tarek won an Individual National title in his second year at Harvard and was named Ivy League Player of the Year during his senior campaign.

Entering Harvard as the top ranked junior player, Tarek transitioned seamlessly to team squash.  While repping the Crimson, Tarek helped lead Harvard to four National Championships and three Ivy League Championships.  The Crimson went a remarkable 65-1 throughout Tarek's tenure.

The two-time captain is the seventh Crimson player to take home the Skillman Award since its inception.  A Harvard student-athlete has been awarded the honor for the second straight year as Tarek follows last year's recipient Victor Crouin.
