Barnard, Malone Sweep Ivy League Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following its impressive victory over No. 4 Cornell this weekend, Harvard men's lacrosse swept the Ivy League's weekly awards, claiming its Ivy League best fourth and fifth selections of the season. Junior goalie, Christian Barnard and first-year attack, Teddy Malone, took home the league's Player and Rookie of the week honors, respectively.

It was the first honor of Barnard's career and the second honor for Malone, who earned the Rookie of the Week award just three weeks ago after his heroic effort against Brown (Mar. 18). This was also the second weekly award sweep for the Crimson this season, the first time the team has accomplished the feat twice in a season in over 20 years.

Barnard was stellar in Harvard's 10-8 upset win over No. 4 Cornell this past weekend, making 16 saves and scooping up seven ground balls to backstop a phenomenal defensive effort from the Crimson.

The Connecticut native made five fourth quarter saves - including three with under two minutes left - to preserve the Crimson lead and give Harvard its first win over Cornell since 2016. Barnard was also an integral part of the Harvard transition game, helping the team clear the ball on 22 of 24 attempts. His seven ground balls were also a career best.

Malone had a solid game at attack in the Crimson's victory, scoring a goal and grabbing a ground ball in the victory. Malone's tally proved to be critical as his strike with only 26 seconds left in the first half leveled the score, erasing what was a three-goal Big Red lead.

A Delaware native, Malone is currently tied for second on the team with 21 points and 16 goals. The first-year is also the Ivy League's rookie leader in those same categories.
