Harvard Men’s Lacrosse Athletes Help Make History at World Lacrosse U20 Championships

Maznik, Wiggins Lead Canada to Historic Gold Medal at World Lacrosse U20 Championships; Speidell, Maznik Named All-World

JEJU, South Korea – Heading into the 2025 tournament, the United States reigned supreme as the World Champion in the U20 World Lacrosse Championship. The Americans heled that title until this afternoon, as Jared Maznik '28, Wyatt Wiggins '27 and their Canada Lacrosse teammates dethroned the USA to win the team's first gold medal in the history of the U20 Championships. The duo got revenge on the United States and their Harvard teammate, Jack Speidell, in the Championship game to help Canada make history.

The Canadians recorded a 6-5 win in the Gold Medal game – after falling to the American side, 7-6, earlier in the tournament – behind a stout defensive effort.  Wiggins, a rising junior LSM/D at Harvard, helped the Canadian defense hold off a valiant comeback attempt from the United States that fell just short. Maznik tallied Canada's sixth goal of the game, the eventual game-winner, to chip in on the winning effort.

For their strong play throughout the tournament, Maznik and Speidell both landed on the World Lacrosse U20 All-World Team. Speidell finished the tournament as Team USA's leader in goals (17) and points (31) after registering 14 assists which was the fourth most in the tournament. His goals were also good for fourth place during the week.

Maznik collected seven goals, 10 assists and led team Canada with 17 points – which was T12 in the tournament – to earn his spot on the All-World Team. Wiggins played solid defense for the Canadians throughout the tournament, helping the unit cause 38 turnovers and allow just 30 goals in six games during the team's gold medal run.
