Men's Lightweight Rowing Heads to Philadelphia for Matthews Leonard Cups

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.. - Harvard men's lightweight rowing heads to Philadelphia this weekend for a matchup with Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania. The three will compete for the Matthews Leonard Cups on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. 

What to Know

  • The Crimson opened its 2023 season with a scrimmage against Bates.
  • Harvard starts the season at No. 4 in the week one IRA Men's Lightweight 8 poll. 
  • Cornell comes in at No. 8 while Penn comes in at No. 5. 
  • The Matthews Trophy will be decided by the winner of the Varsity 8+ while the Leonard Cup will be awarded to the team for the most team points. 
  • Harvard came away with a victory in the 4th Varsity 8 with a time of 5:57.5 last season. 

Next Up 

The Crimson heads to Dartmouth next Saturday to compete for the Biglin Bowl on Saturday, April 15th in Hanover, NH.
