TAMPA, Fla. – For the first time in nearly 30 years, Harvard men's ice hockey had three players earn AHCA/CCM All-America honors, as
Sean Farrell (First Team),
Henry Thrun (First Team), and
Matthew Coronato (Second Team) all were honored by the American Hockey Coaches Association at the Frozen Four on Friday night (April 7). Harvard now has had 35 players earn All-America recognition, with 52 All-America seasons honored.
Farrell was one of the most dynamic players in college hockey during his time in Cambridge. He was named one of 10 finalists for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award, leading the Crimson in scoring with 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists) in 34 games played. The ECAC Hockey and Ivy League Player of the Year, and a two-time ECAC Hockey Player of the Month selection, Farrell was just the third Harvard skater in the last 20 years to top 50 points, joining Jimmy Vesey (32-26-58 in 2014-15) and Dominic Moore (24-27-51 in 2002-03). He signed an NHL contract with the Montreal Canadiens at the end of the season and made his NHL debut on March 28.
Thrun finished his Harvard career with 84 points (17 goals, 67 assists) in 99 career games, as one of the top defensemen in program history. A three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic honoree, Thrun posted 31 points (seven goals, 24 assists) on the year. He earned several end-of-season honors, including ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Defenseman award, First Team All-ECAC and First Team All-Ivy. Thrun was a Second Team All-American in 2021-22, and is now the sixth two-time All-American defenseman in program history. He signed an NHL contract with the San Jose Sharks and made his NHL debut on March 30.
A Second Team All-ECAC Hockey and First Team All-Ivy selection in 2022-23, Coronato notched 36 points (20 goals, 16 assists) in 34 games played this year with a team-best five game-winning goals on the year. In his two seasons in Cambridge, Coronato showed a flair for the dramatic, scoring big goals in important games throughout his career. This past season, he scored game-winning OT goals at Yale (Jan. 20) and against Colgate (Jan. 27), a game-tying goal late in regulation in a win at Princeton (Jan. 6) and four goals in Beanpot games against Boston College and Northeastern. The highest NHL draft pack in program history (1
st round, 13
th overall, Calgary Flames, 2021 NHL Draft), Coronato signed an NHL contract with Calgary on March 26.
