Softball Splits Day One with Dartmouth, Wins Game 2 10-4 After Dominant First Inning

Hanover, N.H. - The Harvard Crimson (17-10-1, 8-3 Ivy) started the weekend series at Dartmouth (9-15, 4-4 Ivy) splitting two games with a 2-1 loss in eight innings followed by a 10-4 win in the second game.

How it Happened

Despite picking up six hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Dartmouth, Harvard was unable to push across more runs, as the Crimson fell to the Big Green 2-1.
Both teams remained scoreless for all seven regular innings and the Crimson put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the eighth inning. Junior Lauren Bobowski came across to score the lone run for Harvard and get them on the board. The Crimson were unable to hold the lead, as Dartmouth scored two times in the bottom half of the eighth to grab the 2-1 win.

Game Notes

• Junior Anna Reed (4-5) came out of the bullpen for Harvard. First-year Riley Flynn then threw 5.1 shutout innings, allowing one hit, with three walks and five strikeouts.
• Junior Madi Mays led the way offensively for the Crimson, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Senior Allison Heffley furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
• The Crimson out-hit the Big Green at a 6-5 clip.
• Harvard pitchers faced 34 Dartmouth hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out eight.

GAME 2 | Harvard 10, Dartmouth 4

How it Happened

Harvard received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Crimson put 10 runs on the board and beat the Dartmouth Big Green 10-4 in game two on Saturday. The Crimson got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Harvard's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Kendall Jean.

The Crimson then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Big Green cut it to 7-3. Harvard scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Savannah Fitzpatrick, which brought the Crimson lead to 8-3.

Harvard kept Dartmouth scoreless before building their lead to 10-3 in the seventh inning. The Crimson scored twice, with one run coming across on Jean's single. Dartmouth put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Harvard still coasted to the 10-4 win.

Game Highlights

• Sophomore Katie Arrambide (5-2) got the win for Harvard. The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. First-year Ryan Grace also pitched well, going three innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking none and striking out one.
• Offensively, the Crimson were paced by Jean, who went 3-for-4 in the game with a double and three RBI. Fitzpatrick put together a standout game at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Heffley also helped out for Harvard, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
• Every Harvard starter reached base safely in the win.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed seven runs across. Harvard grabbed a 7-3 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
• The Crimson out-hit the Big Green at a 12-6 clip.
• Harvard went 5-for-14 (.357) with runners in scoring position.
• Harvard pitchers faced 28 Dartmouth hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out two.
