HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Megan Welsh and senior Allison Heffley each racked up two extra base hits to help lead the Harvard Crimson over the Dartmouth Big Green 6-2 on Sunday. With Sunday's win, the Crimson (18-10-1, 9-3 Ivy) won the 2023 series 2-1 over the Big Green and move up to 72-26 in the all-time series.
How it Happened
The Crimson got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Harvard got on the board thanks to Welsh's RBI double with two outs.
The Crimson then held the Big Green scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Harvard plated two runs off of Dartmouth pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Madi Mays, which brought the score to 3-0 in favor of the Crimson.
Harvard kept Dartmouth without a run before expanding their lead to 4-0 the following inning.
Harvard held the Big Green without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Senior Mackenzie Tyler crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Crimson, bringing the score to 5-0 in favor of Harvard.
The Crimson then built on their lead to 6-0 the following inning. Harvard scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Heffley. Dartmouth put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Crimson still coasted to the 6-2 win.
Game Highlights
• Junior Anna Reed (5-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Harvard. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.
• Heffley's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-4 day, and included two doubles and an RBI. Welsh made her contribution with two doubles and an RBI, part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Mays also helped out for the Crimson, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
• Reed struck out five Big Green hitters.
• The Crimson had both Welsh and Heffley crush multiple extra-base hits in the ballgame.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed two runs across.
• The Crimson had control of the rest of the game after jumping ahead of the Big Green 1-0 in the top of the second.
• The Crimson out-hit the Big Green at an 11-2 clip.
• Harvard went 5-for-13 (.385) with runners in scoring position.
• Harvard pitchers limited Dartmouth to 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Harvard will travel down town to play Boston University in a Tuesday night doubleheader with games starting at 3 and 5:30 p.m. The Crimson currently trail the Terriers 21-27 in the all-time series and hope to get their first win since 2019 on Tuesday.
