Women’s Volleyball Starts Ivy League Play with a Win at Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Women's Volleyball team (8-2, 1-0 Ivy) started the Ivy League campaign on the road, defeating the Big Green at Dartmouth (3-6, 0-1 Ivy) by a score of 3-1. The Crimson won in four sets of 25-19, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-19.

The Crimson and Big Green started the match with a close first set, with 12 lead changes before Harvard gained a three-point lead and went on to win the set after point 20. Harvard finished the set 25-19, holding the Big Green back six points.

The second set was dominated by the Crimson to start, but Dartmouth was able to go on a run and tie it up at 18. Harvard could not keep the home team from building on their comeback momentum and fell in the second set, 21-25.

Set three was tight as well, with both teams holding the lead early in the set and going back and fourth all the way to point 23. At that point, Ariana White took control and scored two kills in a row, giving the Crimson a 2-1 lead with a 25-23 win.

In the fourth and final set, Harvard built up a six-point lead at 15 and held that distance from the Big Green for the remainder of the frame. The Crimson started Ivy League play with a win on the road when they finished the set 25-19, winning the match 3-1.

Harvard Highlights

  • Katie Vorhies and Brynne Faltinsky led the Crimson team in kills throughout the match with 12 each, both scoring 13 points for the team with a combination of their kills and block assists. They were followed by Ariana White with 10 kills.
  • Ashley Wang had 13 points as well with 9 kills and 8 block assists. She was the leader in block assists.
  • Ali Farquhar and Ryleigh Patterson each had one solo block. Patterson added six block assists as well to score four points off blocks.
  • As it has turned out in most matches this year, Wang and Aguirre led the team in assists with 24 and 17, respectively. 
  • Faltinsky had the most digs for the Crimson with 11, posting her first double-double of the season.
  • Ryleigh Patterson made 2 unreturnable serves, scoring 2 service aces through four sets.
  • With today's win over the Big Green, Harvard now leads the all-time series 55-26.

The Crimson will stay on the road and continue conference play at Columbia and Cornell from Friday, Sept. 29 to Saturday, Sept. 30. Both games will air on ESPN+.
