Drolet Places Second in Classic Sprint to Lead Nordic Skiing on Day One at UVM Carnival

CRAFTSBURY, Vt. – Senior Rémi Drolet placed second in the classic sprint to lead Harvard University nordic skiing on day one of the UVM Carnival on Friday at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center with the University of Vermont serving as host.
 
Taking part in the first EISA competition of the season, Drolet placed 10th in the qualifier and won both his quarterfinal and semifinal prior to placing second in the A final with a time of 3:09.10. First-year Sam Gallaudet also advanced to the quarterfinals, placing 14th overall in the event.
 
On the women's side, junior Tali Wong led the Crimson with a 33rd-place finish in the qualifier while first-year Clara Lake followed her in 41st place.
 
Harvard will close out the UVM Carnival tomorrow – Saturday, Jan. 13 – with the 10k skate.
 
The alpine portion of the UVM Carnival – originally scheduled for Jan. 11-12 – has been rescheduled to Jan. 26-27 at Stowe.

Harvard Highlights

  • Senior Rémi Drolet led the Crimson with his second-place finish in the A final. After taking 10th in the qualifier (3:18.34), Drolet won his quarterfinal (3:10.39). He then captured his semifinal (3:10.70) prior to placing second in the A final (3:09.10).
  • In his collegiate debut, first-year Sam Gallaudet finished 16th in the men's qualifier (3:20.56) to advance to the bracket stage. In quarterfinal three, Gallaudet came in third (3:17.09). He came in 14th place overall in the event.
  • Junior Tali Wong led Harvard's women's side with a 33rd-place finish (4:03.51) in the women's qualifier just outside advancing to the quarterfinals.
  • First-year Clara Lake came in 41st in the qualifier (4:04.54) in her first-ever collegiate race.
  • After day one of competition, Harvard stands in seventh place as a team behind a fifth-place finish from the men's side and an eighth-place finish from the women's side.
  • First-years represented six of Harvard's 10 competitors on the day.

Harvard will close out the UVM Carnival tomorrow – Saturday, Jan. 13 – with the 10k skate.
 
Following the conclusion of the UVM Carnival, the Crimson will compete at the Colby Carnival from Friday, Jan. 19 to Saturday, Jan. 20 with alpine events set for Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley, Maine and nordic events scheduled for Quarry Road in Waterville, Maine.
