Track & Field To Compete At UMass Flagship Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field returns to action after the winter break on Sunday, Jan. 14 for the UMass Flagship Invitational. The Crimson will run at The TRACK at new balance for a second time this season, taking part in the Joe Donahue Games in early December.
 
The meet begins at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw, as track events kick-off at 10:45 a.m. with the trials for the men's 60m hurdles. The UMass Flagship Invitational is scheduled to conclude around 5:10 p.m. with the men's 4x800m relay.

WHAT TO KNOW:
  • Harvard track & field student-athletes have made history over the first three meets of the 2023-24 indoor season.
  • At the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, junior distance runner Graham Blanks toppled the NCAA 5000m run record with a run of 13:03.78, a time that also meets the Olympic standard.
  • Senior distance runner Maia Ramsden made some history at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, breaking the Ivy League record in the 3000m with a time of 8:46.84.
  • First-year field athlete Tito Alofe bested a program record in the men's high jump in his debut at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, snapping the 48-year-old record school high jump record with a successful attempt of 2.20m.
  • Along with Alofe, juniors Anastasia Retsa and Victoria Bossong broke their own school records in the pole vault and the 600m at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, respectively.
  • First-year sprinters Timi Esan and Amari Turner started their Crimson careers strong at the Joe Donahue Games.
  • Turner ranks third all-time in school history in the 200m dash after posting a time of 21.31 at the Joe Donahue Games.
  • Esan matched Lance Ward's 60m time of 6.76 at the 2022 HBCU & Ivy Challenge, as the two Harvard sprinters are tied for sixth in the all-time performance list.
  • Sophomore sprinter Fabiola Belibi logged new personal bests in the 60 hurdles (8.66) and the 300m dash (41.36).
  • Junior sprinter Chloe Fair set a new meet record at the Joe Donahue Games in the 300m dash with a run of 38.48.
  • Two Harvard student-athletes are included The Bowerman's 2024 Men's Preseason Watch List.
  • Blanks and junior thrower Kenneth Ikeji earned spots on The Bowerman's first watch list of the season.
  • Ramsden received votes for The Bowerman's Women's Preseason Watch List.

The Crimson will compete in two local meets next weekend, taking part in the Collegiate Showdown at The TRACK at new balance and the Battle in Beantown at Boston University.
