Women’s Tennis Set to Open 2024 Spring Slate at Home Against Boston College

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis is set to open their 2024 dual season this Wednesday, January 17 as they welcome Boston College to the Murr Center.  Following a strong fall and a 12-10 season in the spring of 2023, the Crimson are ready for a run at the Ivy League title in the new year.   

What to Know

  • The 2023-24 season marks the 50th year of Harvard women's tennis and the 17th season with Traci Green, The Sheila Kelly Palandjian Head Coach for Harvard Women's Tennis, at the helm.
  • During the fall season the Crimson accumulated 47 singles victories and 20 doubles wins through six tournaments. 
  • After going 5-0 in singles play and earning a spot in the ITA Northeast Super Regionals, Holly Fischer ranked No. 103 in the final ITA Women's Division I Singles Rankings of the fall season. 
  • Following a successful first fall season with the Crimson, Kate Kim leads the way with a singles record of 10-3. 
  • First-year's Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff amassed the most doubles wins throughout the fall by standing with an 8-2 record.
  • After earning a spot in the ITA All-Americans doubles main draw, Rachel Arbitman and Iveta Daujotaite advanced to the round of 16 following a straight set victory over Maria Berlanga and Ana Naranjo Martinez (Tulsa). 
  • Heading into the 2024 spring, the Crimson are returning four of its top singles players and five of its top doubles players. 
  • Charlotte Owensby returns for Harvard after spending nearly all of last season at the No. 1 singles position and ultimately earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year and ITA Northeast Region Rookie of the Year honors. 
  • The team welcomed four first-years this fall in Natalie Block, Kavya Karra, Kate Kim, and Stephanie Yakoff.  The Crimson newbies entered the year by being ranked the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation according to tennisrecruiting.net. 
  • Harvard holds a 34-15 advantage in the all-time series against Boston College.  
  • Facing off for the first time in three years last season, the Crimson were victorious over its crosstown foe, winning, 4-3.  
  • Last season the Eagles finished 11-11 overall and ranked No. 54 nationally.  The battle in Cambridge, Mass. will also serve as Boston College's season opening match.  

Next Up

The Crimson will hit the road for the first time with a pair of matches in Texas on Saturday, January 20 and Sunday, January 21.  Harvard will battle No. 2 Texas A&M at 1:00 p.m. ET, followed by Rice the next day at 12:00 p.m. ET.
