Track & Field Concludes Day One Action of John Thomas Terrier Classic, Riverhawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Harvard track & field wrapped up day one action at the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the Riverhawk Invitational with strong results across both meets. At Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic, first place performances from senior Gregory Lapit in the 400m dash and first-year Ferenc Kovacs in the 1,000m run were the highlights of the day for the Crimson.
 
Meanwhile, women's field student-athletes competed at the Riverhawk Invitational, hosted at the TRACK at new balance. Pole vaulters Lilly Hodge and Anastasia Retsa each earned a spot on the podium, placing second and third, respectively.
 
JOHN THOMAS TERRIER CLASSIC HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Lapit started the day strong for Harvard, earning first place in the 400m dash with a time of 47.10, holding off Takeoff's Keayari Thompson and Stanford's Will Floyd in the first heat.
  • The Corona, Calif. native is off to an impressive start this indoor season, winning the 300m at the Battle in Beantown and placing fourth in the 200m at the UMass Flagship Invitational.
  • In the 500m run, sophomore Justin Levy set a new personal record in the event, finishing in fourth with a time of 1:04.33. His teammate Reuben Henry-Daire also took a spot in the top-ten in the 500m, finishing in seventh with a personal-best time of 1:05.05.
  • Kovacs made his Harvard indoor track debut at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, making history in his first track race donning the Crimson. The Hungarian distance runner won the 1,000m in thrilling fashion with a time of 2:21.38, a result that ranks second in program history.
  • Junior Joe Ewing also ran the 1,000m, crossing the finish line in fourth place with a time of 2:22.75.
RIVERHAWK INVITATIONAL HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Hodge hit new heights in the pole vault, placing second in the event by clearing a personal best 4.10m. That mark ranks third in Harvard history.
  • Retsa earned third place honors in the pole vault as well, hitting 4.00m to earn the result.
  • Senior Ava Rauser finished tied for seventh in the high jump, successfully clearing the bar at 1.58m.

Harvard concludes action at the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the Riverhawk Invitational tomorrow. Women's track athletes will compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, while men's field athletes will head to the TRACK at new balance for the Riverhawk Invitational.
