CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Sailing sophomore duo of
Justin Callahan and
Mitchell Callahan captured the 2024 Snipe Junior World Championship on Sunday in Miami, Florida. The tandem finished first among an international field of 46 teams, representing 19 countries and five continents.
Â
Over the course of nine races, covering five days of action, the Callahan brothers finished first twice (Race 5, Race 6), came in second place three times (Race 3, Race 4, Race 9), and recorded a third-place effort in Race 8. In total, they finished in the top 10 in eight of the nine races on the day.
Â
With the victory, the Callahan-Callahan team became just the third American duo to lift the Vieri Lasinio Di Castelvero Trophy despite enduring a variety of conditions on Biscayne Bay. The event's largest field since its inception in 1973 experienced a light and variable environment on the first day of racing before conditions turned gusty at the end.
