CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's squash will return to action this Thursday, opening its second semester schedule against the No. 16 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers on the road. The Crimson (4-0, 2-0 Ivy) will compete in the first of its final nine regular season events on Thursday (Jan. 11) at 3:00 PM at Zesiger Center on MIT's campus.
WHAT TO KNOW
- The Crimson come into the event with an unblemished 4-0 mark and a No. 2 National ranking.
- Harvard has posted a combined individual record of 33-3 during the young 2023-24 season.
- 10 student-athletes are currently undefeated, led by Omar Azzam, Denis Gilevskiy, Tate Harms, and Jacob Lin who have all hold 4-0 records entering the match.
- David Costales, Denis Gilevskiy and Tate Harms are all undefeated at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles slots, giving the Crimson a solid 1-2-3 punch at the top of the ladder.
- First-Years Omar Azzam and Jacob Lin have transitioned well to the collegiate level, combining for an 8-0 record and figure to be slotted at the fourth and fifth positions for the match with the Engineers.
- The six-nine positions on the ladder have been split up between Liam Rotzoll, Neel Joshi, Marcus Lee, Louis Murray, Ishant Shah and Zach Baskir. The Crimson hold a combined 13-3 mark at those positions so far in 2023-24.
- The No. 16 MIT Engineers come into the match with a 7-6 record. The Engineers will play their first match of the 2024 portion of its schedule against the Crimson after defeating No. 25 Navy (5-4) and falling to No. 8 Virginia (0-9) and No. 10 Dartmouth (3-6).
- The Crimson defeated both Virginia (7-2) and Dartmouth (8-1) to close out its 2023 schedule.
UP NEXT
Harvard will return to action next weekend to battle Yale (Jan. 19) and Trinity (Jan. 21). The Crimson will host the No. 3 Bulldogs at the Murr Squash Center on Friday night before travelling to Hartford to renew its rivalry against the No. 4 Trinity Bantams on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
