TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving returned to action for the first time in 2024 and was edged by 16
th-ranked Florida State, 168-132, Tuesday afternoon at Morcom Aquatics Center. The dual-meet loss dropped the Crimson to 3-1 (3-0 Ivy League) on the year, while the Seminoles improved to 5-0 with the decision.
How It Happened
- Harvard won six events in its first competition since it appeared at the Minnesota Invitational on Dec. 2.
- Cole Kuster captured 1,000 free, finishing the race in 9:14.93, which was nearly four seconds faster than second-place swimmer Jonathan Edwards of FSU (9:18.30).
- Kuster's classmate, Will Grant, won the 100 back with a time of 48.68. The senior was also the runner-up in the 200 back (1:47.56), coming in second to teammate Anthony Rincon (1:47.30). Grant was also second in the 200 IM (1:50.16) and the 200 medley relay (1:28.91), teaming with Rincon, Sonny Wang and Marcus Holmquist.
- A pair of first-years finished 1-2 in the 200 fly, with another winning the 50 free. David Schmitt posted the field's top 200-fly performance, clocking in at 1:48.76. Felipe Baffico, meanwhile, came in second place with a time of 1:51.40. In the 50 free, Sonny Wang was triumphant in the 12-person field, finishing in 20.29.
- Harvard boasted the top performer in 1-meter diving -- Adam Wesson -- who logged a score of 333.75. In the 3-meter event, Raphael Tourette led the Crimson, coming in third place (368.85), with Denny Gulia-Janovski (352.98) and Luke Foster (348.08) rounding out the top five.
