CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing captured the NEISA Match Racing Championships, while taking third at the Nevins Trophy and finishing in 11
th place at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship this past weekend. The Crimson has finished in the top three at eight different events this fall and won three of them.
NEISA Match Racing Championships | New London, Conn.
On site for the NEISA event were
Justin Callahan, who performed skipper duties, with
Mitchell Callahan,
Xavier Ayala-Vermont and
Kate Danielson serving as crew. Nine teams were on hand Saturday and all went through a round-robin to determine quarterfinal seedings. The Crimson finished with a 7-1 record with the only blemish coming in its head-to-head with U.S. Coast Guard. In the quarters, Harvard defeated Tufts, 2-0, setting up a Sunday semifinal with a familiar foe in the Coast Guard. When the Crimson returned to the water, it avenged its round-robin loss by defeating the Bears, 2-1. Then with the Larry White Trophy on the line, Harvard dismissed Yale, 2-0, to emerge as champions. The Crimson finished the event with three points, with the Bulldogs (6) and Boston College (9) rounding out the top three. With the win, Harvard secured a spot at the ICSA Match Racing National Championships, Nov. 16-17, at Oyster Bay, New York.Â
Nevins Trophy | Kings Point, N.Y.
Harvard's A-Division boat of
Robby Meek,
JJ Drummond (1, 6-10) and
Amelie Zucker (2-5, 11-14) put forth an impressive two-day performance in The Empire State. The group recorded 12 top-7 efforts, including wins in Race 2 and 13, to finish with the second-best division score (72).
Harrison Strom, meanwhile, skippered the Crimson B-entry with
Aidan Pesce (1-7) and
Katherine Shin (8-14) serving as crew. The trio finished inside the top 10 on 11 different occasions, winning Race 2, en route to a final score of 94, which was the sixth-best performance in Division B. All in all, Harvard's final tally was 166, trailing only Yale (112) and Stanford (148) in an 18-team field.
Women's Atlantic Coast Championship – Final | Annapolis, Md.
The Crimson B-division boat of
Zoey Ziskind,
Christina Chen (1-10) and
Peyton Hadfield (11-16) was steady for a majority of the regatta. The trio opened with a victory in Race 1 and then rattled off eight more top-10 finishes in the first 12 races, including another win in Race 11. A line of 15-11-12-13 in the final four races was a minor setback as it finished with the sixth-best division score (131). Harvard's A-division sailors --
Cordelia Burn,
Margo Silliman (1-14),
Sophia Montgomery (15-16) – struggled to gain momentum, but had a handful of bright spots over two days, including a runner-up effort in Race 9. At the end of racing on the Severn River, the Crimson produced a score of 317 to finish 11
th of 18 teams. Stanford won the regatta with a 151.
