Women’s Soccer Travels to Penn For Key Ivy League Match

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's soccer will be back on the road this week for its penultimate regular season contest of the 2024 season. The Crimson (5-3-5, 1-3-1 Ivy) will make its way to Philadelphia for a Saturday afternoon tilt against the Penn Quakers (1-7-6, -2-3 Ivy). The team is looking to bounce back and keep its Ivy League Tournament hopes alive this weekend by earning a key win over Penn.
 

WHAT TO KNOW

 

Fight to the Finish

  • Harvard comes into the weekend with a 5-3-5 record and a 1-3-1 mark in Ivy League play. The Crimson is coming off a 3-1 loss to the Princeton Tigers a week ago but will look to bounce back against the Quakers this weekend.
  • The team has two games remaining in its regular season schedule with the season finale slated for next Saturday (Nov. 2) at Jordan Field against Yale.
 

Against the Quakers

  • Harvard will make its way to Penn to play the 35th match in series history against the Quakers. The Crimson owns a 23-7-4 advantage in the all-time series and is unbeaten in the last five games against the Ivy League rival.
  • The Crimson defeated Penn at Jordan Field a year ago behind a late goal from Josefine Hasbo. Harvard's defense was lock down in the match, allowing just one shot attempt in the entire contest.
  • Audrey Francois and Nicola Golen make up the other two active student-athletes with points against Penn.
 

Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir Keeps Dazzling

  • Since her return from injury, senior forward Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir has been on a tear for the Crimson, becoming the team's most consistent offensive presence.
  • The Iceland native has collected 13 points in her last seven games and now sits at second on the team with the total.
  • The 13 points are also a career best in season in just eight games played.
  • In Ivy League play, Gunnlaugsdóttir has posted a league leading nine points and her three goals are good for second place.
  • The senior's three assists against Cornell are the most in the Ivy League this season and her five points against the Big Red are the second most in league play.
 

A Brick Wall in Goal

  • Junior goalkeeper, Rhiannon Stewart, has been the rock of Harvard's defense all season long, starting and playing in all 13 games during the 2024 season.
  • Stewart has posted five clean sheets on the season which are tied for the most in the Ivy League. Her save percentage of .821 is the second highest in the league and currently is the highest for the Crimson since the 2019 season.
  • The England native tied a career best with nine saves against the Tigers in the team's last matchup.
 

Ivy League Tournament Race

  • The team currently sits in sixth place with four points in the Ivy League standings but has still has a chance to qualify for the four-team Ivy League Tournament.
  • The Crimson is currently chasing Brown (8), Yale (7) and Cornell (6) in the points race for one of the final two spots in the tournament.
  • Harvard still has a solid chance of making its way into the tournament with a match against the Yale Bulldogs looming in the season finale.
 

Next Up

Harvard will return to Jordan Field to play host to the Yale Bulldogs in the team's regular season finale next Saturday (Nov. 2). Game time is set for 3:00 PM with the match scheduled to air live on ESPN+.
