CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's soccer will look to bounce back this week when it returns to the pitch for two Ivy League matches. The Crimson (4-2-4, 0-2-0 Ivy) will first travel to Dartmouth for a midweek matchup on Wednesday followed by a tilt against the Cornell Big Red on Sunday. The team is looking to regroup after back-to-back narrow losses to open up Ivy League play.
WHAT TO KNOW
Flipping the Script
- After a choppy start to its Ivy League season, the Crimson has a great opportunity to get back in the mix atop the Ivy League table with two league games this week.
- The Ivy League table is wide open after two games with every team still in the mix for a spot in the four-team Ivy League Tournament.
- The Crimson is coming off a pair of 2-1 losses to Brown and Columbia in its first two Ivy League games. Both contests saw the Crimson fall after the opposition scored late goals.
Against Dartmouth
- The Crimson will first play Dartmouth on Wednesday (Oct. 9) in what will be the 46th all time meeting between the two programs. Harvard owns a 24-17-4 record in the series including wins in the past four matches.
- Last season, the Crimson posted a 3-0 victory over the Big Green, ending the team's 10-match unbeaten streak to open the season. Jasmine Leshnick also made national headlinese after scoring an improbable bicycle kick goal in the contest.
- Five active Crimson players have recorded a point against Dartmouth including Josefine Hasbo who owns three career assists against the foe. Leshnick and Audrey Francois each own goals and Jade Rose and Susie Long both own assists.
Against Cornell
- Harvard and Cornell will meet on Sunday for the 43rd time in program history. The Crimson owns a 30-3-9 all-time record in the series with wins in the past six contests. The team is also unbeaten against the Big Red in the past 29 contests dating back to the 1995 season.
- The Crimson took home a 3-1 victory against Cornell last year in Ithaca. The win featured goals from Leshnick and Francois.
- Audrey Francois has been a force against the Big Red in her time with the Crimson, scoring goals in both matchups and adding an assist to total five points in her career. Her five points against Cornell are the most against any team in her career.
Harvard Highlights
- Josefine Hasbo leads the team with 11 points and five goals on the season.
- Åslaug Gunnlaugsdottir has scored three goals in the past three games and now is second on the team with six points.
- August Hunter has been the rock of the Harvard defense, playing every minute of every game for the Crimson.
- Rhiannon Stewart has also played all 900 minutes this season between the posts.
- The Crimson is outscoring opponents 16-10 on the season.
- Its 10 goals conceded are the second fewest in the Ivy League.
- Nicola Golen is ranked no. 10 nationally in shot accuracy with a .650 clip.
Scouting Dartmouth
- The Big Green comes into the contest after back-to-back losses against Yale (1-2) and Cornell (0-1) to open its Ivy League season.
- Daisy Granholm is on a tear for the Big Green this season. Granholm currently leads the Ivy League with seven goals to her name in 2024. Her .64 goals per game mark is good for the no. 38 spot in the nation.
- The Big Green lead the Ivy League in 2024 with 22 total goals.
- Ally Connors has started nine games in net for the Big Green, posting five wins and allowing only 12 goals on the year. Teams are scoring 1.36 goals per game on Connors, who has made 42 total saves on the season.
Scouting Cornell
- The Big Red currently hold a 2-5-4 record in 2024. Cornell recently snapped a season long three game losing skid with a 1-0 result against Dartmouth. The group will have one more game against Columbia on Wednesday before travelling up to Cambridge to take on the Crimson.
- The Big Red is being outscored, 9-18 so far in the 2024 campaign but its shot total is nearly level with its competition at a 126-132 split.
- Laken Gallman leads the group with seven points and three goals while Sydney Allen has also chipped in with two goals on the year.
- Natalie Medungo has led the goaltending effort for Cornell this season, starting in eight games and allowing 14 goals while making 28 saves.
