CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 25
th-ranked Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving team opens its 2024-25 campaign this week when it faces Cornell and Dartmouth in Ithaca, New York. The two-day meet begins on Friday at 3 p.m. ET, with Saturday set to commence at 10 a.m. ET.
What to Know
- Harvard enters the new season coming off its seventh straight Ivy League championship. The Crimson ran away with the Bob Kiphuth Trophy last year, posting 1,682 points over four days at Blodgett Pool, easily outpacing runner-up Princeton (1,321).
- The Crimson finished the 2023-24 campaign at No. 23 in the CSCAA top-25 and found itself at No. 24 in the 2024-25 preseason rankings. Harvard, despite not competing, fell only one spot to No. 25 in the October poll.
- The 2024 Ivy League Coach of the Year, Kevin Tyrrell, is back to lead the Crimson for the 12th straight season. Associate head coach Daniel Dozier is also back, entering his third campaign. A familiar face to Harvard will also patrol the pool deck as Will Grant '24 was announced as an assistant coach on Oct. 1. Grant helped the Crimson win four Ivy titles, set the program record in the 200 IM, and finished his career as one of the most decorated swimmers in conference history.
- Harvard will take into its meet with Cornell a 59-2 all-time record vs. the Big Red. The Crimson cruised to a 175-125 win at Harvard last season to register its 16th consecutive series victory. Harvard is 25-1 all-time against the Big Red on the road.
- Cornell is 2-0 on the season after defeating Binghamton on the road, 149-94, on Friday, and earning a 151.50-91.50 decision at St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
- The Crimson will look to improve upon its 80-11 all-time mark vs. Dartmouth this week. Harvard pocketed a 202-97 home decision vs. the Big Green in 2023-24. The Crimson has won 51 straight meetings vs. Dartmouth.
- The Big Green opened its season on Saturday, falling at Princeton, 244-56, and coming up short vs. Brown, 182-118, also at Princeton.
- This season, Harvard will be led by its two captains in seniors Jonathan Novinski and Anthony Rincon. The latter of the two is coming off an appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, competing for Colombia. Also returning is 2024 NCAA qualifier Adam Wesson, who punched his ticket to the national meet in the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions.
- Harvard is looking to begin its campaign with season-opening victories for the fourth straight year. In fact, the Crimson has won on opening day in 12 of the last 13 years, with the only blemish occurring in 2019-20, when it fell to Duke and No. 7 Texas A&M.
