ITHACA, N.Y. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving defeated Cornell and Dartmouth during its season-opening weekend. The meet, which began on Friday with diving, was completed on Saturday, with the Crimson earning a 181.50-118.50 decision against the host Big Red and cruising to a 222-75 victory over the Big Green.
How It Happened
- Harvard opened Saturday with a win in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Anthony Rincon, Joshua Chen, Aayush Deshpande and Sonny Wang finished in 1:28.66, edging Cornell and its time of 1:29.23.
- Shane Washart emerged victorious in the 1,000 freestyle, completing the course in 9:23.99, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Julian Correa of Cornell (9:26.13). The senior also won the 500 freestyle (4:33.01), beating Correa by 0:00.04 seconds.
- David Greeley finished more than a second ahead of Alex Miao of Cornell in the 200 freestyle to win the event. The junior posted a time of 1:39.07, compared to Miao's 1:40.29 performance. Greeley also secured the 100-freestyle title, finishing in 45.23, just ahead of Dartmouth's Colton Rasmussen (45.38).
- Harvard went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly, with Adriano Arioti capturing the event with a time of 1:47.21. David Schmitt, meanwhile, posted a time of 1:47.35, well ahead of third-place performer Joseph Gurski of Cornell (1:49.16). Arioti was also victorious in the 200 backstroke (1:44.68) and 200 individual medley (1:50.10).
- Wang won the 50 freestyle in 20.01, just over a half-second ahead of Josh Toothman's (Cornell) 20.54 effort. Wang's 200 medley relay teammate, Chen, won the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.35, ahead of runner-up Dylan Rhee (2:03.58).
- Wang and Schmitt took the top two spots in the 100 butterfly. The sophomore duo posted times of 47.47 (Wang) and 48.33 (Schmitt).
