OYSTER BAY, N.Y. – Harvard Sailing completed its Fall 2024 campaign this past weekend with an eighth-place performance at the ICSA Match Race National Championships.
The Crimson earned an automatic berth to the regatta after it captured the NEISA event in October.
Justin Callahan served as the skipper, with
Mitchell Callahan,
Harrison Strom and
Kate Danielson performing crew duties.
Xavier Ayala-Vermont, meanwhile, was waiting in the wings as a reserve.
Harvard began the three-day event with a 4-5 mark in Stage 1, with the wins coming against Boston College, Tulane, Navy and Chicago. The Stage 1 effort sent the Crimson to the repachage along with Stanford, Charleston and Chicago, where it ultimately posted a 2-1 record to advance, along with the Cardinal (3-0), to Stage 3 where the top-6 schools from Stage 1 awaited.
In the third stage, Harvard was matched with Brown in one of four, best-of-3 quarterfinal races. Unfortunately for the Crimson, the Bears got the best of them, capturing the first two races to advance and ending Harvard's quest for a national title. Boston College ultimately downed Brown in the finals, 3-0, to win the national crown.
