BELFAST –
Casey Severo netted his first career hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Merrimack to close the Friendship Four on Saturday afternoon. The first Crimson hat-trick since 2021, Severo scored three straight goals for the Crimson before
Cam Johnson added an insurance marker late in the third period to seal the win.
Harvard (3-4-1, 2-2-1 ECAC) returns to its regularly scheduled ECAC schedule next weekend against St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Casey Severo opened the scoring at 7:23 in the first period after a tipping home a
Joe Miller blast from the point. Originally starting with a nice move by
Ryan Healey on the blueline the junior set up Miller for a one-timer.
Merrimack answered shortly after the Severo goal after a puck deflected off of a Crimson defender to beat Charette and tie the game. Charette was solid between the pipes in the first period after making seven saves.
Severo added his second of the game after a great passing play off a breakout. Entering the zone,
Ben MacDonald dropped it back to
Joe Miller who found Severo in the slot for another Crimson lead. The Warriors scored to tie it right after to tie the game at two.
Severo completed the hat-trick just 19 seconds into the third period after another great passing play from the Crimson. Starting with a quick move ,
Ryan Healey found
Joe Miller on a stretch pass who slowed down just enough to find Severo in the slot for the second time. Beating the Warriors netminder blocker side, Severo's fourth of the year gave Harvard a 3-2 lead just seconds into the final period.
Cam Johnson picked up his second goal in as many games after Merrimack turned it over in their own end. Making a strong move to the net Johnson flipped it over the netminder for a much needed insurance marker.
Ben Charette made 18 saves in the third period to shut the door and secure the win.
