CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Harvard Football standout Truman Jones '23 helped the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jones defeated fellow Crimson alumnus Kyle Juszczyk '13, 25-22, in overtime en route to the championship.
Jones becomes the fifth Crimson player to emerge victorious in the Super Bowl, joining the likes of John Dockery '66 (Super Bowl III), Jamil Soriano '03 (Super Bowl XXXVIII), Matt Birk '98 (Super Bowl XLVII) and most recently, Cameron Brate '14 (Super Bowl LV).
This season's Super Bowl marked the first time two former Harvard players faced off for the Lombardi Trophy. Juszczyk was making his second career appearance after playing in Super LIV, while Jones completed his first season with Kansas City.
Jones finished his Harvard career in 2022 and was one of the top players in the FCS, capturing All-America accolades from five different media outlets, while also earning CSC Academic All-America honors. The 148th team captain in Harvard football history was additionally the co-recipient of the Bushnell Cup, which is given annually to the Ivy League's top defensive player. For his career, Jones finished with 88 tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks across 30 games.
Jones' Super Bowl victory capped a successful postseason showing for Harvard in the NFL. Aside from the aforementioned duo, Tyler Ott '14 helped the AFC North champion Baltimore Ravens play for the AFC title, with Anthony Firkser '17 and Chris Smith '22 guiding the NFC North champion Detroit Lions to the NFC championship game.
