Baseball Drops 14-3 Decision to Troy in Game Two

TROY, Ala. – Seniors Ben Rounds, Chris Snopek, and Peter Messervy each tallied two hits, but Harvard University baseball fell to Troy University, 14-3, on Saturday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field in game two of a three-game series.
 
After the Crimson (0-2) battled the Trojans (6-1) in an eventual 4-3 setback in game one, the hosts – a 2023 NCAA tournament team – used eight runs in the second and six runs in the sixth to take the decision in the second game of the weekend.
 
Rounds went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored after hitting a home run in Friday's contest. Snopek and Messervy each finised the day 2-for-3 while junior George Cooper contributed a triple and a run scored.

Harvard Highlights

  • Senior designated hitter Ben Rounds went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored on Saturday after hitting a home run on Friday.
  • Senior first baseman Chris Snopek finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Senior center fielder Peter Messervy contributed a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.
  • Junior left fielder George Cooper tallied a triple and a run, junior catcher William Lybrook notched an RBI single, senior Jake Berger posted an RBI.
  • As a team, Harvard tallied nine hits and a walk in the contest. Three Crimson – Rounds, Snopek, and Messervy – recorded multiple hits in the game.
  • Sophomore left-hander Brian Dowling registered a career-high four strikeouts over 3.2 innings pitched in relief. 

How It Happened

  • Harvard took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as an infield single from Lybrook brought home Snopek. Troy countered with eight runs in the bottom of the frame to pull ahead 8-1 at the end of one.
  • The Crimson trimmed the margin to 8-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
  • After Cooper notched a triple, Rounds plated him with a double to left field before Berger drove in a second run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
  • The hosts then scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth with the contest coming to a conclusion in the seventh.
