Drolet Places Second in Men’s 20k Classic as Skiing Closes Competition at EISA Championships

HANCOCK, Vt. and RIPTON, Vt. – Senior Rémi Drolet placed second in the men's 20k classic, the Crimson's alpine team tallied another four top-30 finishes, and Harvard University skiing closed competition on the second and final day of the Middlebury Carnival on Saturday to conclude the 2024 EISA Championships and NCAA Regional Championships.
 
In nordic competition at the Rikert Outdoor Center, Drolet tallied his eighth top-three finish and sixth top-two finish of the season with his second-place effort in the men's 20k classic while junior Quincy Donley led the women's side with a 22nd-place finish in the women's 20k classic for her second top-30 finish of the weekend after placing 27th in Friday's 7k skate.
 
In alpine action at the Middlebury Snowbowl, the Crimson concluded the weekend with nine top-30 finishes. On Saturday in the giant slalom, sophomore Luke Kearing (22nd), junior Matt Ryan (24th), and senior Liam McNamara (25th) all placed in the top-30 on the men's side while senior Elsie Halvorsen came in 28th on the women's side. In Friday's slalom, five Crimson placed in the top-30 including Halvorsen (11th), Ryan (24th), McNamara (26th), Kearing (28th), and sophomore Olyvia Snyder (29th).
 
As a team, Harvard placed eighth out of 14 EISA schools at the championships with 383.5 points. 

Harvard Highlights: Alpine Day 2

  • The Crimson tallied four top-30 finishes on Saturday, finishing the weekend with nine top-30 showings after five top-30 efforts on Friday.
  • Sophomore Luke Kearing placed 22nd in the men's giant slalom with a 1:58.63 (57.27 run one, 1:01.36 run two) for 21 EISA points and nine NCAA points. He notched his fourth top-30 finish of the season and second of the weekend.
  • Junior Matt Ryan came in 24th in men's giant slalom behind a 1:58.72 (57.72 run one, 1:01.00 run two) for 19 EISA points and seven NCAA points. He registered his eighth top-30 effort of the season and second of the weekend.
  • Senior Liam McNamara finished in 25th in men's giant slalom with a 1:58.77 (57.48 run one, 1:01.29 run two) for 17.5 EISA points and six NCAA points. He recorded his 10th top-30 finish of the year and second of the weekend.
  • Senior Elsie Halvorsen came in 28th in women's giant slalom behind a 2:05.64 (1:00.98 run one, 1:04.66 run two) for 17 EISA points and three NCAA points. She compiled her 11th top-30 finish of the season and second of the weekend. 

Harvard Highlights: Nordic Day 2

  • Senior Rémi Drolet came in second in the men's 20k classic behind a time of 50:04.3 for 47 EISA points and 80 NCAA points. He posted his eighth top-three finish of the year and sixth top-two showing of the season.
  • Junior Quincy Donley placed 22nd in the women's 20k classic with a time of 1:02:24.5 for 23 EISA points and nine NCAA points. She posted her eighth top-30 finish of the season and second of the weekend.
  • Senior Laura Appleby added a 34th-place finish in the women's 20k classic with a 1:05:26.4 for 15 EISA points. 

Harvard Highlights: Alpine Day 1

  • The Crimson totaled five top-30 finishes on the day with two on the women's side and three on the men's team.
  • Senior Elsie Halvorsen posted her 10th top-30 finish and eighth top-20 finish on the year with her 11th-place effort in women's slalom. She notched a time of 1:44.42 (53.29 run one, 51.13 run two), 30 EISA points, and 24 NCAA points.
  • Sophomore Olyvia Snyder registered her first top-30 showing of the season with a 29th-place finish in women's slalom behind a time of 1:48.21 (55.03 run one, 53.18 run two) alongside 15 EISA points and two NCAA points.
  • Junior Matt Ryan recorded his seventh top-30 finish of the year with a 24th-place showing in men's slalom. He finished in 1:37.39 (47.88 run one, 49.51 run two) for 22 EISA points and seven NCAA points.
  • Senior Liam McNamara followed with his ninth top-30 effort of the 2024 season, coming in 26th place in men's slalom with a 1:37.51 (48.52 run one, 48.99 run two) for 21 EISA points and five NCAA points.
  • Sophomore Luke Kearing notched a 28th-place finish in men's slalom – his third top-30 effort of the year – behind a 1:37.84 (49.25 run one, 48.59 run two) for 20 EISA points and three NCAA points.

  • Junior Quincy Donley placed 27th in the women's 7.5k skate behind a time of 26:53.7 for 22 EISA points and four NCAA points. She posted her seventh top-30 finish of the year.
  • Senior Rémi Drolet came in 24th in the men's 7.5k skate, notching a 22:02.5 for 21 EISA points and seven NCAA points. He posted his eighth top-30 finish of the year.

Next Up

Harvard will look to send representatives to the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Colorado, Boulder from March 6-9 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with alpine events at Mount Werner and nordic events at Howelsen Hill. The championship's schedule of events will include giant slalom on March 6, the 7.5k individual freestyle on March 7, slalom on March 8, and the 20k classic mass start on March 9.  The NCAA will announce selections for the championship on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
