Three Individual Titles Highlight The First Day of The 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field concluded day one action of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships at Gordon Indoor Track, as the Crimson captured three individual titles on the opening day of the marquee meet.

The day started with a bang in the women's weight throw, as first-year Emilia Kolokotroni capped her inaugural indoor season with an individual Ivy League title. The Nicosia, Cyprus earned the Ivy League title in the women's throw with a personal-best attempt 19.45m (63'9.75"). Her throw at the Ivy League Indoor Championships ranks third on the program performance list.

Senior Maia Ramsden kept the momentum going in the women's 3,000m race, winning the Ivy League championship in the event with a time of 9:19.76. Over the course of her collegiate career, Ramsden has four Ivy League indoor event championships.

In the men's weight throw, junior Kenneth Ikeji electrified the crowd at Gordon Indoor Track with an incredible performance. Ikeji won his second consecutive Ivy League men's weight throw title with an attempt of 24.39m (80'0.25"), breaking the Ivy League record and his own school record. Ikeji's throw is the longest in the NCAA this season, as the London, England native is the first student-athlete in the nation to clear 80 feet this season.

At the end of day one of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, the women's team is in second place in the race for the Ivy League title with 35 points, while the men are in sixth with 11 points.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • In the women's mile prelims, junior Marianne Mihas punched her ticket to tomorrow's final, placing ninth with a time of 4:51.85.
  • The owner of the fastest men's mile time in the Ivy League this season, junior Joe Ewing will run in the finals, placing fifth in the preliminary round after finishing the race in 4:10.23.
  • Two Crimson student-athletes earned a spot on the podium in the women's pole vault. Junior Anastasia Retsa and first-year Lilly Hodge took second and third, respectively, scoring points for the women's team.
  • Kolokotroni earned Harvard's first event win of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, as the first-year took home first place in the women's weight throw with a new personal-best attempt of 19.45m (63'9.75").
  • Sophomore Michaela Denson tallied points for the women's team in the weight throw, taking sixth with a personal-best throw of 17.98 (59'0").
  • In her last appearance at the indoor Heps, senior Chrystal Aluya earned a spot in the 60m dash finals with a qualifying time of 7.69, a personal season-best result.
  • The men's 60m dash saw Harvard's sprinting duo of first-year Timi Esan and sophomore Jonas Clarke advance to tomorrow's finals.
  • Esan, a native of London, England, ran the second-fastest time in the preliminary round, posting a personal-best 6.72. That time ranks second all-time in program history.
  • Junior Chloe Fair will lace it up again tomorrow, as the reigning Ivy League champion in the 400m dash looks to defend her title after running a 55.22 in the preliminary round.
  • The men's 400m dash followed the women's 400m, as a pair of Crimson clinched a spot in the finals. Senior Gregory Lapit posted the top preliminary time of 47.55. Finishing in sixth place was junior Peter Fischer, who set a personal-record of 48.39 on his way to the 400m finals.

  • Later in the day, junior Victoria Bossong ran a 1:12.68 in the 500m, earning a spot in the finals with the second-fastest time in the qualifying round.
  • In the men's portion of the 500m, senior Peter Diebold posted the fastest time in the preliminaries (1:02.97).
  • First-Year Sophia Gorriaran, the program record holder in the 800m, took a spot in the 800m finals at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships with a qualifying time of 2:09.69.
  • Harvard sent another student-athlete to day two of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships in the women's 1,000m. Junior Ellaney Matarese went 2:49.74 in the qualifiers, the fastest time of the day in the women's 1,000m.
  • Ramsden added another piece of hardware to her trophy case in the women's 3,000m, winning the event with a time of 9:19.76.
  • The men's 3,000m run saw junior Ben Rosa score points with a sixth-place finish.
  • Senior Egbe Ndip-Agbor and sophomore Mfoniso Andrew will run in the women's 200m dash finals tomorrow after taking fourth and eighth in the prelims.
  • In the men's 200m, Lapit and senior Lance Ward ran season-best times to clinch spots in the men's 200m finals tomorrow.
  • Ikeji ended the day with a thrilling showing in the men's weight, winning the Ivy League title in the event after becoming the first student-athlete in conference history to clear 80 feet with an attempt of 24.39m (80'0.25"). That throw ranks at the top of the NCAA performance list this indoor season.
