Victoria Bossong wins the 500m at indoor Heps

Track & Field Concludes 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field wrapped up the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday afternoon at Gordon Indoor Track. Crimson student-athletes posted strong results on the final day of indoor Heps, winning five more individual Ivy League titles. In all, Harvard student-athletes won eight event titles at this year's Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Championships.

In the team standings, the women finished in third place with 97 points, while the men took fourth with 81.

At the awards ceremony, junior Kenneth Ikeji earned Most Outstanding Men's Field Athlete honors after winning the men's weight throw at day one of the meet. Ikeji leads the nation in the weight throw, becoming the first student-athlete in the nation to clear 80 feet this season.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Harvard's second day of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships began with the women and men mile finals.
  • In the women's mile final, junior Marianne Mihas scored points for the Crimson, running a personal-best time of 4:48.90 on her way to sixth place.
  • Fellow classmate Joe Ewing also contributed to the team tally, taking third place in the men's mile final.
  • Junior Chloe Fair garnered second team All-Ivy League honors in the women's 400m dash, taking second place with a season-best time of 53.96.
  • In convincing fashion, senior Gregory Lapit won the Ivy League championship in the men's 400m dash with a time of 47.52. Lapit wins the Ivy League indoor 400m title for a second consecutive year.
  • Also racing in the men's 400m final, junior Peter Fischer registered points for the men, taking fifth place.
  • The women's 500m final saw junior Victoria Bossong make history, winning the event by breaking her own Ivy League record, finishing the race in 1:08.53. That time ranks second all-time in the NCAA and Bossong is just one of two student-athletes in Ivy League history to win the 500m title three times at indoor Heps.
  • In the men's 500m final, senior Peter Diebold took six points with a third place finish, recording a new personal record (1:02.73).
  • Racing in his first 60m finals at indoor Heps, first-year Timi Esan finished in third, posting a 6.74 in the event.
  • First-Year phenom Sophia Gorriaran continued her impressive form in the 800m, running a 2:04.56 in the women's 800m final to take the Ivy League title in the event.
  • The women's 1,000m final saw Ellaney Matarese produce points for the women, recording a fourth place finish with a time of 2:46.61.

  • Senior Egbe Ndip-Agbor took fourth place in the women's 200m final, hitting a new personal-record with a sprint of 24.11.
  • Lapit and senior Lance Ward both scored in the men's 200m, as Ward captured fourth place with Lapit finishing in fifth.
  • Finishing in third place of the women's 5,000m finals, junior Ella Gilson set a new personal-record in the event, finishing the race in 16:02.04. Sophomore Molly Malague joined Gilson on the podium, finishing in sixth place.
  • In his fourth jump, junior Daniel Falode made history in the triple jump, leaping to a school record of 15.96m (52'4.25"). Falode wins the Ivy League title in the indoor triple jump for a third-straight year.
  • First-Year standout Tito Alofe took third place in the men's high jump, clearing the bar at 2.11m (6'11").
  • Junior Ben Rosa ran to All-Ivy League Second Team honors in the men's 5,000m, taking second place in the event.
  • In a dominant wire-to-wire win, the women's distance medley relay team of Gorriaran, Fair, Bossong, and Maia Ramsden won the Ivy League title with a new meet record time of 10:56.77.
  • Harvard's quartet of Ewing, Justin Levy, Ferenc Kovacs, and Diebold earned second team All-Ivy League honors in the 4x880y relay, posting a time of 7:34.49.
  • The women's 4x440y relay team of Mfoniso Andrew, Bossong, Gorriaran, and Fair earned second team All-Ivy League honors with a second place finish.
