CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard men's squash got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, using eight wins to propel the team to an 8-1 victory over the No. 6 Cornell Big Red. The Crimson (7-3, 4-2 Ivy) got the win over its top-10 opponent to snap a three-game losing skid. Harvard also remains unbeaten on its home courts with the result.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after
Jacob Lin and
Ido Burstein secured victories at seven and three, respectively. Burstein, a senior captain, swept his opponent 3-0 and outscoring him 33-13 in the match.
Liam Rotzoll rallied to win his match at six, storming back in the final game to force a tiebreak, eventually earning a 3-1 match victory with a 13-11 win in the fourth and final game.
Omar Azzam put the Crimson on the brink of the clinch with his 3-0 sweep at the second position on the ladder.
Denis Gilevskiy clinched the match for Harvard with a rapid 3-0 victory in which he outscored his Cornell opponent, 33-7, for the largest margin of victory in the match.
Conner Stoltz and
Neel Joshi followed with 3-0 wins at the nine and eight spots on the ladder, pushing the lead to 7-0 Harvard.
Tate Harms picked up the final win of the day, outlasting his opponent in a 3-2 victory at the four spot. Harms rallie back from a 0-2 deficit to win three straight games and pick up his team leading ninth win of the season.
