CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's basketball (12-8, 5-2 Ivy) will play its final of four straight road games this Saturday, February 10 as it travels to Hanover, New Hampshire to take on Dartmouth. Tip-off against the Big Green is set for 2:00 p.m. in Leede Arena and on NESN and ESPN+.
What to Know
- Harvard began its 2023-24 season and the second year under head coach Carrie Moore with 13 non-conference matchups, standing at 7-6 heading into league play. Through the out-of-conference slate the Crimson tallied seven strong victories over Boston College, Quinnipiac, UMass, North Dakota State, SMU, UMass Lowell, and Delaware and falling only to Maine, BU, URI and a trio of Power 5 opponents.
- Through the first half of Ivy League play, the Crimson now stands at 12-8 overall after going 5-2 while facing Yale twice along with Princeton, Brown, Penn, Columbia, and Cornell.
- To open the first back-to-back weekend the Crimson faced Columbia in what served as a rematch of the 2024 WNIT Great 8.
- Katie Krupa led all scorers and nearly posted a career high with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The sophomore also added three rebounds and two assists on the night.
- Harmoni Turner and Lola Mullaney joined her in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
- Sanyiah Glenn-Bello had a strong all-around game by adding eight points on 4-of-7 shooting and leading the team with five boards.
- As a team the Crimson shot 45.0 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc throughout the contest.
- Harvard posted one of its strongest quarters of the season to bring the game to a tie at half by shooting 60.0 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from three-point land in the second frame.
- Despite many strong points in the contest, Harvard ultimately fell to the Lions, 70-82.
- The following day the Crimson bounced back by dropping Cornell, 63-52.
- Krupa once again led all scorers and finished a point away from tying her career high by posting 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting.
- The sophomore also registered her first career double-double by adding 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals against the Big Red.
- Mona Zaric made her first career start against Cornell and in a season-high 33 minutes posted six points, two rebounds, and three assists.
- Mullaney was the sole other Harvard player to join Krupa in double figures with 11 points. By draining a triple in the third quarter, the senior became tied for second all-time for career three pointers with 261. She now sits 26 behind Katie Benzan '20 for the top spot.
- Of the teams 26 made field goals on the day, the Crimson assisted on 16 points.
- Following the contest, Harvard moved to 10-1 when out-rebounding its opponents by grabbing 48 boards to the Big Red's 37.
- Turner picked up right where she left off when returning from injury in January. The junior currently ranks second in the league in scoring by averaging 19.7 points per game along with fourth in assists (4.1) and sixth in steals (1.8).
- Elena Rodriguez, who had a breakout season last year, continues to be a dominant presence all-around for the Crimson. The junior is averaging 11.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game through the first 18 contests. In 2023-24, Rodriguez has scored in double figures 12 times and has led the team in rebounding and assists in 12 and 10 games, respectively. While shooting 55.1 percent from the field, Rodriguez ranks first in the Ivy League, a title which she held at the end of last season.
- Mullaney is performing at a high level in her senior season by currently averaging 13.5 points and career bests in rebounds (3.6), assists (1.9), and steals (1.0) through the first 20 games. In the month of December, Mullaney averaged 17.5 points per game on 43.0 percent shooting. The senior currently stands with 261 career three-pointers and sits tied for No. 2 all-time in Harvard history for career three-pointers made.
- With five field goals against UMass Lowell, Mullaney cracked the Harvard women's basketball top-10 with 470 career field goals. The senior now has 507 made field goals throughout her four years and will continue to climb the top-10 list throughout 2023-24.
- The Crimson first-years, Mary Hollensteiner, Karlee White, and Abigail Wright, all have made an immediate impact this season. Hollensteiner has proven her shooting abilities early and led the team in scoring in the win over Quinnipiac. White has started 13 games for the Crimson and has begun to blossom on both the offensive and defensive ends. Lastly, Wright averages a little under 17 minutes per game and is contributing 5.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per appearance.
- In the Ivy League the Crimson ranks second in assists (14.3) and three-point field goals (6.8), and third in scoring (69.9), field goal percentage (42.9) and three-point percentage (31.0).
- Not allowing its opponents to have the same success from behind the three-point arc, the Crimson ranks first in the league in three-point percentage defense, holding its opponents to 27.6 percent from three.
- Saturday's meeting will be the 92nd meeting all-time between the two teams with the Crimson currently riding a five-game win streak.
- Overall, Harvard holds a 55-36 advantage in the all-time series and most recently defeating the Big Green on March 4 of last season, 64-40.
