Men's Tennis Opens Four Match Slate in California

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard men's tennis team begins play in California this week after over a week away from action. The Crimson will begin its trip out West with two matches at UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, March 12. Harvard will first face No. 53 UC Santa Barbara at 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT before taking on California Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT. Harvard will then travel to Malibu to take on No. 51 Pepperdine on Friday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. PT. To close out the trip, Harvard meets No. 31 UCLA in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 17 at 4:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. PT.

What to Know

  • The Crimson improved to 10-4 after defeating Boston University 7-0 on Feb. 29. 
  • Harvard is 2-2 in away matchups this season and 0-2 in neutral site matchups.
  • In the most recent ITA Men's Division I Team Rankings, the Crimson checked in at No. 8. The Crimson reached the highest ever team ranking a few weeks ago with a No. 6 mark on Feb. 27.
  • First-year Cooper Williams who ranks No. 13 nationally for singles, follows behind Daniel Milavsky for the most victories in 2023-24 with 11 overall and five throughout his first collegiate dual season. 
  • No. 53 UC Santa Barbara stands at 6-3 this season. Harvard leads the all-time series over the Gauchos, 9-2, with the most recent matchup coming in 2006 on a 6-1 Crimson victory.
  • This will be the first ever matchup between Harvard and California Lutheran as the Kingsmen hold a record of 5-2 this season.
  • No. 51 Pepperdine currently sits at 4-6 this season as the Waves have a 3-13 series advantage over the Crimson.
  • Harvard earned its first ever victory over No. 31 UCLA earlier this season to bring the series to 1-8 in favor of the Bruins. UCLA holds a 6-2 record this season.

Next Up

The Crimson will have a week off when it returns to Cambridge before beginning Ivy play. Harvard first faces No. 73 Dartmouth for its first conference matchup at home on Saturday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
