CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball continues the 2024 campaign this weekend with a road trip to Providence, R.I., as the Crimson take on Brown for a three game Ivy League series. The two programs meet for the first time this season on Saturday, Mar. 30, with two games at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The series concludes at Brown Softball Field on Sunday, Mar. 31 at 12:30 p.m. Crimson fans can catch all three games live on ESPN+.
CRIMSON UPDATES:
- The Crimson bring a 10-11 overall record and a 1-4 Ivy League mark to Brown this weekend.
- Last weekend, Harvard welcomed fans to Soldiers Field for the first time this season with a doubleheader against Dartmouth.
- In a thrilling offensive showcase, Harvard outlasted the Big Green in a 9-6 victory. The Crimson recorded a season-high 13 hits in the first Ivy League win of the year.
- Sophomore infielder Finley Payne drove in a team-high three runs in the win, while first-year infielder Sophie Sun went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with two doubles and one RBI.
- Dartmouth evened the series with a 3-0 win in the second game of the doubleheader. The Crimson will host the Big Green on Tuesday, Apr. 9 for the series finale after weather forced a postponement of the contest.
- Junior infielder Maya Douglas excelled at the dish and in the field against Dartmouth in the doubleheader, logging two doubles in two at-bats while not committing an error.
- Douglas is tied for second on the team in batting average (.308) and is second in slugging percentage (.500) so far this season.
- First-Year pitcher Nicolette Hunter is excelling in the circle for the Crimson. The Camarillo, Calif. native leads the squad in earned run average (1.35) and walks and hits over innings pitched (1.05). The 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, sophomore Riley Flynn holds a 2.80 ERA along with team-highs in innings pitched (45.0) and strikeouts (35).
- At the plate, Sun is sensational, as the everyday shortstop leads Harvard in batting average (.386), on base percentage plus slugging percentage (1.102), hits (22), RBIs (11), and slugging percentage (.702). A native of Austin, Texas, Sun is the only student-athlete on the roster with multiple home runs this season with four.
- At the plate, Harvard ranks second in the Ivy League in batting average with a mark of .270 and slugging percentage (.410).
- The Crimson boast one of the best pitching staffs in the conference, as Harvard's team earned run average of 2.45 leads the Ivy league this season.
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
- Brown is 6-13 this season, holding a 1-2 record in Ivy League after facing off against Yale last weekend.
- In its last outing, the Bears traveled to Bryant for a doubleheader, dropping both games of the doubleheader against the Bulldogs.
- The Crimson and Bears first met on the softball field in 1981, as Harvard leads the all-time series, 72-38.
- At Soldiers Field, Harvard swept the Brown in 2023, outscoring the Bears 16-3 in the three victories.
- Across the past ten games of the series, Harvard holds an 8-2 record against Brown.
