Five Crimson Ready for 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Five Harvard track & field student-athletes will compete at the 2024 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships this week, starting on Thursday, Mar. 7 and ending on Saturday, Mar. 9 at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass.

In order to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, student-athletes must place in the top-16 of the national performance list by the end of the regular season. For relays, a quartet must place in the top-12 of the performance list.

Senior distance runner Maia Ramsden earned a spot in the 3000m run and the mile semifinals at the 2024 NCAA Indoor & Track Field Championships. Ramsden looks to add another national championship to her incredible resume on the track, as the New Zealand native won the national championship in the 1500m run at last year's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. At the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, Ramsden earned first team All-America honors in the mile and 3000m. Ramsden owns the top seed time in the mile, as she ran a national-best and Ivy League record time of 4:24.83 at the 116th Millrose Games in Feb. In the 3000m, Ramsden ran the third-fastest time in the nation at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Dec., breaking another Ivy League record with a run of 8:46.84.

In the 800m, first-year phenom Sophia Gorriaran looks to end a sensational debut indoor season on a high note at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Last month, the Providence, R.I. native broke a 34-year-old program record in the indoor 800m run at the Terrier DMR Challenge, finishing the race in 2:01.68. That is the sixth-fastest time in the nation this season and Gorriaran is the only Ivy League student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 800m.

On the men's side, junior Kenneth Ikeji is seeking his first NCAA national championship in the weight throw. A national champion in the outdoor hammer throw, Ikeji made a splash at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, breaking the Ivy League record with an attempt of 24.39m (80'0.25"). That is the best throw in the NCAA this season and ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history.

First-Year jumper Tito Alofe rewrote the program record book in his inaugural indoor season with the Crimson on his way to qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the high jump. In his collegiate debut at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge, Alofe set a new program standard in the indoor high jump by clearing the bar at 2.20m (7'2.5"), surpassing the previous school record of 2.19m set by Melvyn C. Embree '76 in 1975. Alofe kept improving throughout the indoor season, as he improved his school record at the Riverhawk Invitational. Alofe produced a jump of 2.22m (7'3.25"), which is tied for fifth in the NCAA this season. Alofe is just one of two first-year student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the men's high jump, joined by Georgia's Riyon Rankin.

Behind a record-breaking showing at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, junior jumper Daniel Falode qualifies for the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships for the first time in his career. In his sophomore campaign, Falode competed in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2022. Falode qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships after breaking the school indoor triple jump record at the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, as the London, England native reached 15.96m (52'4.5") on his fourth jump.

The Crimson have claimed nine indoor NCAA national titles in program history. The last came in 2018, as Olympian Gabby Thomas '19 won the 200m national title.

The 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships begin on Thursday, Mar. 7 and conclude on Saturday, Mar. 9. Fans can watch all the action live on ESPN+. Harvard begins the outdoor season on Thursday, Mar. 14 at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational in Houston, Tex.
