Track & Field Starts Weekend Strong at Spec Towns Invite, Friar Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field started another anticipated weekend of action with another set of impressive and strong performances at the Spec Towns Invite and the Friar Invitational.

FRIAR INVITATIONAL HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • The middle-distance and distance events took the center stage at the Friar Invitational, as the Crimson started the afternoon with the 800m.
  • Junior Samira Kennedy ran a 2:15.21 to finish in third in the women's 800m, while a trio of Crimson first-years represented Harvard in the men's 800m. Arashi Hunter led the way with a time of 1:52.45 to take fourth place, while Andrew Thornton-Sherman stopped the clock at 1:53.28 in his sixth place showing. First-year Grant Schroder rounded out the 800m in seventh place with a time of 1:53.43.
  • In the women's 3000m run, senior Abby Weber captured second place with a time of 10:13.65, while first-year Caitlyn Chang earned a 14th place finish after posting a 10:51.10.
  • The men's 3000m steeplechase saw sophomore William Brunner make his outdoor season debut, taking eighth place with a time of 9:16.51. Along with Brunner, junior Ethan Aidam also finished in the top 15, ending the race in 15th place after running a 9:39.36.
  • The invite section of the women's 800m saw both Crimson entries post top 10 performances. First-year Dylan McElhinney ran a 2:10.30 to capture third place, while fellow classmate Callie Wallace took 10th after crossing the finish line in 2:12.08.
  • Senior Lily O'Donoghue-McDonald finished in 15th place in the women's mile, running a 4:57.27 in the process. First-year Ella Cohen finished in 21st place with a time of 5:12.48.

SPEC TOWNS INVITE HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • On the long jump runway, junior Marta Amani captured fifth place in the women's long jump in Athens, Georgia, as the Villa Cortese, Italy native posted a jump of 6.12m (20'1"). Sophomore Saige Forbes finished in 16th place with a jump of 5.50m (18'.5").
  • Sophomore Ella Cooper highlighted the Crimson's showing in the women's 200m, taking seventh place after sprinting a 23.39, a career-best in outdoor competition. A native of Owings Mills, Maryland, Cooper now ranks fourth all-time in school history in the outdoor women's 200m, as this time is also the top in the Ivy League this year.
  • Along with Cooper, sophomore Abigail Dennis finished in 28th place with a time of 24.34, as sophomore Kaelin Creagh ran a 25.09 to take 44th.
  • The first day of action for the Crimson at the Spec Towns Invite ended with the women's 400m hurdles, as Dennis returned to the track to take 10th place with a time of 1:00.29.
