CAMBRIDGE, Mass – Harvard softball looks to carry its momentum from series wins against Dartmouth and Princeton to New York this weekend, as the Crimson hit the road for a three-game set against Columbia.
The series begins on Saturday, Apr. 13 with a doubleheader at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Harvard concludes its time in the Big Apple on Sunday, Apr. 14 with a 12:30 p.m. showdown against the Lions. Crimson fans can watch the all the action on ESPN+.
CRIMSON UPDATES:
- Under the direction of head coach Jenny Rohn, Harvard is 15-13 this season, holding fifth place in the Ivy League standings with a 6-6 record in conference play.
- The Crimson is 5-2 in its last seven games, earning critical series victories against Princeton and Dartmouth at home.
- In its last game, the Crimson utilized a late rally to beat the Big Green at Soldiers Field on Tuesday, Apr. 9, 4-2.
- Three different Harvard pitchers appeared in the circle in the series finale against Dartmouth, holding the visitors to their lowest run total since Mar. 30. At the plate, senior outfielder Lauren Bobowski drove in a team-high two runs, her fourth game this season with two or more RBIs.
- Harvard is 5-2 over its last seven contests, as the Crimson is batting .333 and outscoring its opponents 39-26. The pitching staff owns a 2.98 earned run average with 28 strikeouts over that stretch.
- The Crimson is capitalizing at the plate in scoring opportunities, owning a .294 batting average with runners in scoring position.
- First-Year infielder Sophie Sun is emerging as one of the Ivy League's offensive talents. The Austin, Texas native is just one of three student-athletes in the conference to own a batting average above .400. Sun leads the Ivy League in OPS (1.220), total bases (61), slugging percentage (.772), and ranks second in batting average (.418) and hits (33).
- A three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree, Sun owns a seven-game hitting-streak heading into the Columbia series.
- Â Junior infielder Maya Douglas is excelling at the dish, producing the best campaign of her collegiate career. The Charlotte, N.C. native leads the Ivy League in doubles with ten, and owns career-highs in hits (22) and RBIs (12).
- The Crimson boast one of the Ivy League's best offenses, leading the Ancient Eight in batting average with a mark of .288.
- In the circle, Harvard is dominant, posting the best team ERA (2.59) in the conference, the school in the Ivy League with a team ERA below 3.00.
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
- Columbia is in first place in the Ivy League, owning a 7-2 record in conference action. The Lions are 12-15 overall in 2024.
- In a road trip to Philadelphia, Penn. last weekend, Columbia earned a key sweep of Penn, outscoring the Quakers 17-8 over the three games.
- The two programs have met on the softball diamond 51 times, as the Crimson lead the all-time series, 38-13.
- Dating back to 2019, Harvard owns a 10-game winning streak against Columbia, as the last meeting came in the 2023 Ivy League Softball Tournament. Harvard defeated the Lions, 7-2, in Princeton, N.J.
