CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing finished its 2023-24 regular-season campaign this past weekend with a trio of top-5 performances, including a first-place showing at the NEISA Open Dinghy Championship in Providence, Rhode Island. The Crimson now has 15 top-5 efforts during its 2024 spring slate.
NEISA Open Dinghy Championship/Coast Guard Alumni Bowl | Providence, R.I.
The weather had a mind of its own on Saturday and Sunday, producing no wind at the beginning of each day, forcing sailors to wait around for conditions to improve. Once teams were able to get on the water, Harvard emerged victorious in the end, earning 45 points to finish atop the leaderboard. The Crimson edged the hosts, Brown (50), by five points, with Yale (97), Tufts (124) and Roger Williams (131) rounding out the top five in an 18-team field.
Lachlain McGranahan and
Marbella Marlo recorded the top score (22) in Division A, while
Justin Callahan and
Kennedy Leehealey finished with the second-best B-Division performance (23), sitting one point behind Brown. With the team victory, Harvard has now won five regattas this spring.
New England Women's Fleet Racing Championship/Reed Trophy | Brunswick, Maine
The Crimson posted the fifth-best score in the 16-team field, finishing at 124 behind Brown (76 points), Boston College (100), Dartmouth (102) and Roger Williams (123). Sailors were able to get nearly four hours of competition in the books on Saturday before the wind died down on Harpswell Sound. Sunday brought a light breeze to start, but eventually picked up to 10-20 knots out of the south-southwest.
Cordelia Burn and
Emily Launderville represented the Crimson in Division A, with the duo earning 61 points, tying with the U.S. Coast Guard, but securing the fifth-place nod thanks to the tiebreaker system. Harvard's B-Division pairing of
Zoey Ziskind and
Margo Silliman finished with 63 points, a number that was also the fifth best in the field, helping the Crimson hold firm in its fifth-place position.
Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup | Cambridge, Mass.
Harvard welcomed 15 teams to the Charles River for the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup and finished in fifth place with 210 points. Roger Williams emerged from two days of sailing with a field-best 118 points, ahead of top-5 finishers Boston College (124), Brown (185), Georgetown (205) and the Crimson. Saturday's weather allowed for decent races, but many were abandoned due to a lack of wind. Sunday, however, featured a great environment, with wind ranging from 3-13 knots, coming out of the west-southwest and west-northwest.
Robby Meek and
JJ Drummond posted the top A-Division score (39) and was five points clear of Roger Williams (44). In Division B,
Sarah Burn and
Lily Bartlett recorded a score of 54, which ranked fifth, while
Matthew Cabot (1-5) and
Olivia Hogan-Lopez (6-10) teamed with
Kate Downey to log a C-Division score of 117.
