GREENWICH, Conn. - Harvard women's golf ended its 2023-24 season with a fourth-place finish at the Ivy League Championship this weekend. The Crimson preformed well on one of the most challenging golf courses in the Northeast this weekend, but finished just outside the podium with a team score of 914 (+50). Sophomore Birdget Ma dazzled her way to a second-place finish individually with a 54-hole score of six-over-par (222).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Harvard women's golf team traveled to Greenwich, Conn. this weekend to compete in the 2024 Ivy League Championship at the Stanwich Golf Club. With a slope of 77.0 and playing over 6,100 yards, the Crimson took on one of the toughest tracks in the Northeast.
- The Crimson opened up the tournament with a team score of 311 in the first round, putting them in last place but just ten shots back of the leader. Bridget Ma started strong in the tournament, using an even-par round of 72 to slot herself tied for second place after day one. Isabella Gomez used an impressive back-nine stretch to post a 77 which was T12 after 18 holes. Meiyi Yan and Iris Wang both carded rounds of 81 to complete the scoring for Harvard.
- Harvard bounced back in a big way on day two, posting the lowest round of any team in the tournament with a 297 (+9) to move into fourth-place.
- Gomez picked up where she left off on day two, using an even-par round of 72 to surge all the way up to T4 in the field at the end of the second round. Ma was close behind in T8 after a six-over-par 78. Charissa Shang, Wang and Yan all posted scores of 74, 75 and 76, respectively, to contribute to the low score. Gomez only recorded two bogeys on the day and Wang posted a bogey-free back nine to help Harvard's surge.
- The third round saw Harvard shoot a team score of 306 to put them outside the top-three in the tournament. The Crimson finished at 50-over par in the tournament and in fourth-place overall.
- Individually, Ma used another even-par round of 72 to fly up the leader board into T2 for the tournament. Gomez (+4, 76), Yan (+7, 79) and Shang (+7, 79) all contributed in the final round scoring.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Bridget Ma finished tied for second overall at six-over-par in the tournament. Powered by a pair of even-par rounds of 72, Ma took home her second second-place finish of the Spring season.
- Ma posted nine birdies on the weekend, the most in the field.
- Senior Isabella Gomez came in tied for seventh overall at nine-over-par after carding rounds of 77, 72 and 76.
- Charissa Shang, Meiyi Yan and Iris Wang were all stacked together in the final standings, coming in at 21, T22 and T22.
- Harvard's second round team score of 297 was tied for the lowest team round in the tournament.
- The Crimson posted the best scoring average on par-three holes with a 3.23 on the weekend (+14).
- The team also had the second-best scoring average on par-five holes at 5.08 ( +5).
- As a group, Harvard carded the second most pars in the field with 164.
- Ma had the best scoring average on par-five holes in the field, posting a combined score of five-under on the long holes.
