PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Harvard track & field competed at a high-level on day one of the Penn Relays, as three Crimson student-athletes earned top-five finishes in their respective events at Franklin Field. In Harvard's last event of the day, first-year
Ferenc Kovacs set a new program record in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, posting a time of 8:43.98.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- The day began on the throwing fields, as first-year Emilia Kolokotroni kicked-off Harvard's time at the Penn Relays in the women's hammer throw.
- A native of Nicosia, Cyprus, Kolokotroni took fourth in the event with a throw of 60.41m (198'2").
- In the men's portion of the hammer throw, junior and defending NCAA Men's Hammer Throw National Champion Kenneth Ikeji won the event by breaking his own meet record with a toss of 74.15m (243'03").
- The Crimson now have seven wins in the men's hammer throw in Penn Relays history.
- Over on the track, junior Chloe Fair posted a new personal-best in the women's 400 hurdles, finishing the race in 57.42, a time that ranks fourth in program history.
- In the East region, Fair now ranks 14th in the 400 hurdles.
- Junior Isabelle Goldstein took 26th in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, finishing the race in 10:59.45 in the second heat.
- Harvard's opening day of the Penn Relays ended on a high note, as Kovacs broke the school in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 8:43.98.
- The former school record was set by Will Battershill '20 at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries (8:44.36).
